This shouldn't be bothering me, but I remember this recording that always seemed to be on MOR radio stations in the the early 60's, and probably various kiddie tv shows that I watched back then.

It was sort of marching band tune, did not have real lyrics, just
Doodle-oo doo,
Doo, doo, doo, doo doo,
Doodle-oo-doo
Doo, doo-doo, doo, doo, doo
etc.

and these eventually were changed to

daddle-aah-dah
dah, dah, dah, dah, dah etc,

Can someone please tell me what the name of this song, where it comes from (e.g. Broadway? a movie? just a record?) and who performed it?

Sounds like the beginning of Gene Kelly's "Singin' in the Rain." But it only had a few bars of "doodle-oo doo" before the lyrics started.

Sounds to me like something from the old Dick Van Dyke show.

ETA: It might have been called The Doodling Song. Check it out on Youtube. Peggy Lee had a semi-hit with it & it was featured on the Dick Van Dyke show.

Nope, definitely not that.

Probably not (wrong era, no do dee doos in it), but is it "The Hey Song", actually called "Rock and Roll Part 2", by Gary Glitter? It's popularly done with marching bands, and really has no words beyond "Hey" and "Ba na na na na" and similar:

If it's not that, I'm at a loss.
