I read about Kiva at a sewing website I frequent, and I was quite taken with this organization (and made several loans)

I've done this for a group of women in Peru who were trying to purchase a freezer for their small grocery store. It was a small investment that was paid back. I can reclaim my money or reinvest it. I am now looking at another group to reinvest in---it conceivably be the gift that keeps on giving. I LOVE Kiva---I am unemployed and at least I can do this to help others. Who knew?

I started with 2 loans about a year and a half ago, and have since been able to reloan the same money multiple times.

I have mixed feelings about the whole thing - as I don't think that high-interest loans are always the route to a better life and dependence on credit can turn out to be a negative; however, I do think there are a lot of cases where it does do good so I'm willing to risk the exceptions.

Well, I am perfectly willing to give it a chance. It may help some people, and there is no risk to me - my money will be returned. :)

One of my loans was just paid back. So I guess this thing is really working! :)

I love Kiva too! I started donating in 2008 and have had the same loan from 4 years ago repaid multiple times back. It's a great way to be able to continuously give back in an affordable manner.

I've been loaning through Kiva for about 5 years, I've only had one loan default, but it was a loan made in a country that ended up in a civil war.

Really love this site, I've also purchased gift cards to the site and given them to various friends and family members to help them become involved. I highly recommend it.

2 more of my loans have been paid back in full, and the other 6 are all paying back on time. I love this thing. :)

I'm due to get my first repayment in May! I spent some time working in rural Peru and was thrilled to be able to lend to a lady who works in the cheese industry - BEST. CHEESE. EVER. :swoon:
