why is Alissa going to Europe twice. doesn't it make more sense to stay there?

It would cost a lot of money for Alissa and her coaches to stay there for two weeks, all at her and Jeremy Abbott's expense. Plus, Yuka and Jason have other students to attend to back in Detroit, including Rippon and Valentina Marchei who are going to worlds.

ETA: I doubt USFS forced this assignment on Alissa and Jeremy, so they and their coaches must think this (including the extra travel) is in their best interest.

Trips to Europe won't be as bad as, say, flying to Asia - 8 or 9 hour flight w/ a 6 hour time change is doable especially for young people

Yeah true... For me going to Europe is a whole day adventure. Two really.

Hopefully Alissa will get some confidence back if she skates well, rather than the opposite.

Selfishly I'm glad for another competition to watch

I just hope she doesn't wear herself out, that's all.

My memory is that Alissa has always been more comfortable at home. I think that is still true.

There's a new article up on IceNetwork today (I've posted a link in the Challenge Cup competition thread in the Kiss and Cry forum) - relevant excerpt:

"We rearranged things a little bit in my long [program]; we changed the order of a few of the jumps, so that they're more comfortable," Czisny said. "A few weren't working as well as they could have, and sometimes you switch [them] around and they work easier. Other than that, everything should be the same as it was at nationals."

Dungjen will accompany Czisny and Abbott, plus Italian Valentina Marchei, to The Hague. Sato remains in Detroit to work with U.S. silver medalist Adam Rippon and other students. The Detroit team departs for Europe on Tuesday and will return following the competition on March 12.

Czisny isn't concerned about jet lag.

"It's only Europe, it's not that bad," she said. "I was in The Hague for the Junior Grand Prix Final a few years ago, or actually 10 years ago. It's a great place to visit."

IIRC, the few times Czisny did the 3flip this season, they were all really solid.

I hope she is giving up the 2axel3toe. I really think a 2axel 2axel sequence is a better bet if she wants to squeeze in 6 triples and 2 2axels.

Sorry, Marco. ;) From a brief Detroit Free Press article published today: "Dungjen said the goal for ... Czisny, it's to successfully complete a double axel-triple toe combination in Saturday's long program."

Thanks Sylvia. :P

Well, if she can do a solid one I am all for it. But she seems to be having enough trouble with her 2axels this season as it is.

Well, she got the falls and pops out of her system, if that's possible.

^ Doesn't seem like it at all... Her FS at Challenge Cup was disastrous.

Yes, I am afraid to even watch it. :(

That's what I was referring to. Can worlds be worse?

Things can always get worse. :drama:
