I don't think the journalists had time to look that up. I didn't even know that fact off the top of my head!

Apparently Ashley was asked after her FS if she had ever beaten Mao and she herself said no. ;)

That would be correct. I am sure that ANY member of the media would love to have your fact-checking help. They get little time time write let alone do full out research-- yes, they should be careful and try to get it right, but sometimes things slip through the cracks.

The "Chicken Dance" would at least be original, wouldn't it. How about just leaving it out? Just because you're choreographing a piece to SL for a female skater it doesn't mean that you automatically have to put in that step. I feel the same way about the arms flapping.

I guess she should just do 32 fouettes, then.

I can't think of a Swan Lake interpretation where the skater clearly expressed the characters. It's mostly just skating around in feathers and arm flapping. I hate the tippy toe thing too, but remembered, yeah, Odile again.

Caroline is "lucky" she got a senior B and did well there. Usually it's only the Europeans who benefit in their rankings from the senior B's. I guess the same for Mirai, who's not assigned to any ISU championships at all.

I had no idea about the 2009 COR thing either. I also thought this was Wagner's first time beating Asada.

Mao had a very bad outing at the 2010 NHK Trophy.

So this is actually the third time she's finished ahead of Asada. Interesting.

Well, this is the first time she's finished ahead of a strong Asada. I think that is the key difference.

Exactly. The win in '09 was really due to Asada's horrendous performance.

It also lends credence to that idea that skaters don't keep careful track of who they are competing against - at least not in every competition. They spend their time and attention on their own skating.

Are the rankings like tennis in that if you don't equal or exceed your placement from the year before at the same event, you drop lots of points?

I'm surprised the Alissa is behind Zhang. I suppose she'll easily pass her again after Worlds, but you'd think getting to GPF 2 years in a row (and winning it last year!) would put her far ahead of Zhang.

Does it mean if Czisny does not perform well enough at Worlds, it will be Wagner and Zhang for the World Team Trophy?

(and suppose, barring injury, Wagner is already set)

I don't think any of the girls going to Jr Worlds have enough points to overtake Zhang and definitely not Wagner even if they won Jr Worlds?

Those are just the Season World Rankings though, not the overall ones. Caroline is in front of Alissa because Alissa doesn't have ISU championship points yet for this season (i.e., Worlds, Jr. Worlds, Euros, 4CCs). I suspect things will change after Worlds.

In the (overall) World Standings, Alissa is the highest ranked American lady at #6.

Does the WTT look at World Standings or Season World Rankings? Because if it is the former, Wagner is still way down there and it will be Czisny and Nagasu (!) to WTT.

Does Nagasu have to go to WTT? Can she decline her spot or does she have to be "injured"?
