The US Ladies have some FIGHT in them. That is nice to see! Go Ashley and Caroline!

I'll have to wait until they post the videos to see (I was out tonight) but OMG! Ashley and Caroline!! These girls are on a roll!

I checked the protocols and Ashley appeared to be flawless! No edge calls, not even one -GOE. I am so proud of her! Ashley is the real deal folks. By beating Mao here, she's just proven that she'll be able to challenge for a medal and judges aren't holding her back at all. If she skates like this at worlds, she'll undoubtedly find herself in the mix for gold. Wow...

And Caroline! I was hoping to see her finish in 4th place, but I'm thrilled she did one better and ended up with bronze! 3rd place in the FS with the second highest TES behind Ashley! That's incredible. She didn't even get a call on her lutz; I'm wondering if the tech caller may have fallen asleep because Ashley, Mao and Caroline are all chronic flutzers...but there were no calls tonight. No complaints here though! It looks like she nailed all of her jumps and the judges really appreciated what she did out there. 117.44! That probably her best score ever on the international scene.

I am so proud of these two ladies. The hard work and commitment they've put into their skating shows so much and is paying off so well. This was an excellent way to wrap up Caroline's season and I hope she ends up with 2 GPs next year; she's earned it. And I hope Ashley continues to work hard and ends up :kickass: at worlds.

SO PROUD OF THEM!!

Ha!, not many would have ever thought that it would be Ashley Wagner, Alissa Czisny, and Caroline Zhang being the ones to save the US ladies skating program on an international stage, given all the Nagasu/Zawadzki/Gao hype. Proves that "hype" is just that.

Many congrats to the rising fighters and underdogs of the US ladies team!!!

What will need to happen for her to get 2 GPs? What are the criteria for it?

She'll definitely end up with two. She was 4th and Nationals and 3rd here, so there are no question marks there.

Nagasu, OTOH, might only get one..

Am I the only one surprised that Ashley, Mao and Caroline all did true lutzes?! It's a 4 cc miracle! Was there an image of Jesus seen on the ice as well?

Aren't GPs determined by World Ranking? I think Nagasu will probably get 2, maybe one of the invites. It will most likely be Wagner 2, Czisny 2, Zawadzki 2, Zhang 2, Gao 2, (this depends on if Flatt continues to compete), Nagasu 2, and then whoever (depending also on if skaters like Gold move up)

The tech panel didn't call Kexin Zhang on her lip, either. They were pretty lenient.

Yes, they are. But then again the host countries can do whatever they want with their skaters. Nagasu will probably end up with two, but it's not a definite at this point.

I think Gold will do JGP, most likely. Unless JW is really successful for her.

LOL at the 'image of jesus' part.

i for one am having skate america flashbacks. not on the same scale, mind you. ashley was much cleaner, and ashley impressed me especially because she said she would up her level of difficulty and she went right for it. however, i still am flummoxed that her skating skills are suddenly superior to mao's, that her jumps went from multiple -GOE at nationals to all positive GOE here. i remain unimpressed by that awful arm flapping during her spiral.

but at least all the hand-wringing over 'will the judges rob ashley on PCS' debates will cool... for a week or two... ^___^ so, everyone feeling real good about the US getting 3 spots at worlds now, right? ^^

See, I kind of like it. I think, if anything, it shows an interesting level of control.

First off, WOW. Didn't think Wagner would actually BEAT Asada- I figured she would possibly challenge if she threw it down but man...

And secondly, CZhang on the comeback again to sneak in for the bronze medal. This is really great to see- but it would be even better if it happened again at Worlds. Again, getting flashbacks to how much promise our ladies showed in Vancouver only to fall apart a month later at Torino Worlds...(please don't let this happen again)

Ashley didn't beat Mao on Skating Skills and her jumps went from negative GOE at nats to positive GOE here because they were... cleaner.

The tech specialist apparently just decided not to call any edge calls tonight.

Caroline Zhang is currently 9th in the Seasons Best Scores. If the GP rules stay as they are, top 24 would qualify her for GP selection but not guarantee her anything if I remember correctly.

it's a flashback to the barely-contained aggressive presentation of previous incarnations of ashley for me, but i'm glad you like it. lord knows we need more americans excited about our skaters

:) I do see your point, though. But I feel like it's more restrained.
