Ouch on Mirai... Guess she's going to have to go back and think about her coaching situation...

Like some of thought about her pre-nationals interview, she didn't seem confident about nationals...

but the sad thing is also how well Mirai skated in all her practices. apparently she has been nothing short of amazing in runthroughs...

It's got to be something mental holding her back. Sandra was right-no one who's focused and in the moment would glance up at the stands like Mirai did when someone called her name just before her skate! I think Mirai needs to think hard on what she wants for herself in the next year-and I think she needs a sports psychologist.

Another thing that's surprising is that Mirai normally has peaked at Nationals. But it hasn't happened in the last two seasons.

Mirai does do well at Nationals usually. Actually in the past 5 years, she only fell once - in 2008 FS. Guess it wasn't her night tonight :(

Well... I'M SO HAPPY FOR ASHLEY!!! No matter what happens within the next ten minutes, she should be really proud of what she's laid down.

So it makes up for Mirai a little bit...

Congrats to Ashley for becoming the 2012 U.S. Nationals Champion!!! Wow, her prediction was right!!! And that must really be shocking to people who were writing her off from the top of the podium.

I think it's definitely all mental at this point. She's obviously practicing and can do the content but isn't confident, which is sad. Hopefully, the extra time off will give her more time to think about how to achieve her goals.

Congrats to Ashley, and Alissa!! Can I assume they are both automatically on the World team? :)

Congrats to Agnes, Caroline, Christina and Rachael-some mistakes here and there but all fought well.

((Mirai)) don't worry. You're not a machine but you've got a good heart and I know you'll come back stronger next time!

First off, congrats to Wagner and good for her for backing up the talk.

Second, congrats to Zhang for a comeback few thought was possible.

Flatt went out there and did herself proud- even though she finished only 6th after being in the top 2 four years in a row, after what she's been through...and realizing it could have been much worse the way she's been skating.

Zawadzki- well, this is a good learning experience for her but she has what it takes and I hope she does not get discouraged by what happened tonight. If anything, it's a triumph for her...she made herself known by that SP on Thursday night, and it's a real tough position to a) be the leader after the SP and b) to skate last. At least I hope she gets a Four Continents trip out of it.

Gao- good to finally see her get stronger and lose some of that shyness I saw earlier.

Czisny- despite the shaky FS, she hung on and didn't let the mistakes derail the performance and that's critical. The ability to fight for every point is the cornerstone of this system. That said, she's going to need to find those jumps pretty soon if she wants to contend for a world medal. This is probably her best shot at one! She needs to shake off tonight, rest up a bit and train for worlds. I don't think she needs to go to 4CC but I'm hearing she'll go anyway.

Nagasu- oh man. What to say, what to do? She looked completely distracted and that's unfortunate. I really think it's a combination of mental issues and being undertrained- her training situation just isn't working out for her and I think ultimately she'll need to leave Carroll and find a more consistent training regimen. The status quo just isn't working...and it would be ultimate shame if this is how her career ends...
