I had to change the channel. Azarenka's screaming is just too much. My bf went to bed early and even with the volume way down it was very disturbing every time she hit the ball. How do they let her get away with this? It is not necessary!

And then there was the period of time after Wimbledon where Petra couldn't win a match to save her life. She's got an incredible game for sure, and I think it'll just be a matter of time before she's number 1, but let's not pretend she's the epitome of consistency either. She's got great wins and horrible losses on her record.

Yes but people dont equate a consistently mediocre ok type player as a #1 and frankly at the moment that is what most serious fans look at Azarenka as being. Similar to Wozniacki but Wozniacki has won more tournaments and Premier type events. Sharapova hasnt had a really big event win in 4 years now, and has won only 2 overall tournaments in the last year. I stand by what I said that it just seems strange either is potentially so close to the #1 ranking right now, although if one wins the AO it wont seem as strange I suppose.

Azarenka would only rise to #1 if she wins the Australian Open. I think that's a pretty big tournament, but I'm not sure.

It is really incredible Azarenka or Sharapova have a chance to be #1 after this tournament. Neither at all deserve it IMO. Kvitova and Wozniacki are the only two players with an overall record in the last 12 months to deserve #1. Azarenka's game is also incredibly unimpressive for a potential #1 to be honest, even moreso than Wozniacki who atleast stands out in her consistency and defense.

Vika plays an aggressive game with weapons; has one of the top backhands on the tour. She's improved her serve, improved her mobility and uses angles well.

Vika has played the best of the ladies for tourneys after the US Open. She beat Li Na and Stosur at the year ending tourney 2011. She lost in the finals to Kvitova in 3 tough sets.

Vika gave the second set away.

I don't think my ears could tolerate an Azarenka/Sharapova final. :scream: One is bad enough.

Sharapova's shriek bothers me more than Vika's...

YAY! I'm so happy for Vika! She's fought so hard, changed her mentality in a huge way and it's been a long time coming.

Congrats, girl! :cheer:

And kudos to Kim. It was a good match.

 As I am happy for Vika. Vika served well in the 3rd set. She didn't get down on herself and held on.

I completely agree about Maria's shrieks. Maria's shrieks change with pressure of the match too.

So the shrieks are about gamesmanship?

Congrats to Vika! That was some pretty good tennis! Hoping for the same in the second semi-final. Sad that it was probably Kim's last match at the Australian Open.
