Five set match for Isner...so what else is new?

Seriously though, I don't know what exactly about his tennis keeps getting him into long matches but he's never going to go far if he doesn't figure it out.

(((Venus))) Chronic illness sucks. :(

ETA - Isner out.

JJ having a bit of a meltdwon against Clijsters and Kim had her own bit of a wobble. And that's it Kim wins 6/2 6/4 as JJ goes down to love on her own serve.

Isner

JJ :( ... but, yea, not a shock.

Isner losing is a bit of a shocker but given how Falla nearly knocked Federer out in the first round a couple years ago it's not THAT big of a shock. Falla for a South American is suprisingly strong on grass. Still though, not a good day for Isner.

Good day for Kimmy though, she looked none for the worse for wear and had a couple of blips but was really solid today. Glad she was able to get through relatively unscathed against JJ.

Sloane Stephens first US lady through 6-2, 6-2 Win. Vania King lost.

FALLA :cheer:
Isner gets into these long matches, Imo, because his serve is hard to break and his return of serve and transition game are poor, which makes it hard for him to break his opponent.

^Exactly. TBH I find Isner a tad overrated. Still, I always expect him to do well on grass because of his serve, yet he's never got past the 2nd round.

Barthel is very impressive. And good start for Watson!

Isner really is a head scratcher on grass. Tall and has that huge serve but is so mediocre.

Venus and Jankovic losing isn't a shock really.

Sad to see Venus lose in the 1st round. May be her health issues are really making it impossible for her to continue playing at the highest level.:(

It definitely looks that way. She looked so lethargic out there today. My hunch is she's in it for the Olympics, and will most likely retire after that.

I just realized we didn't have a suicide tennis thread. I would have done it but Wimbledon has completely snuck up on me with it being an Olympic year.

Can we do a suicide tennis game maybe starting with the 2nd round?

Nalbandian was a fool but people can't seriously think he INTENDED to injure the linesman?!

Surrounded by cakes? Can we come over? :)

I don't think he thought to himself, I'm going to hurt that linesman. But the linesman was so close to where he kicked that any idiot would have known - before the kick - that the odds the linesman would at least be very frightened, if not hurt in some way, were very, very high.

Everyone is welcome to come over for cakes, but you MUST bring a bottle. The cellar is almost half empty. Thanks in advance!
