Dear lord. I have aged and become an alcoholic in the space of two sets of tennis. But thank fcuk Kaia EVENTUALLY did it.

God - she made hard work of that - as the commentators over here said - 'thank goodness she has fianlly put us out of our misery' :D. Loved how she threw her racquet away at the end - almost in disgust!!!

The question I have is will Wozniaki continue her slide down the ranks and become an also-ran like so many other women who have topped the womens ranks? How many #1's has womens' tennis had that have not won a grand slam in recent years? The same can certainly not be said of mens' tennis!! Why is that?

^Whatever it was, it seems to be over. Of the current top 7 women, all but one (#3 Radwanska) have won at least one Slam. Nice!

Well Safina, Jankovic and Wozniacki all have the dubious honour fo being slamless no.1's - Safina is all but retired, Jankovic is a professional loser/shopper and Wozniacki has turned to moonballing to get to the third round of slams. Sad times.

Interestingly since Wozniacki took up with Rory Mcilroy she has dropped like and stone in the rankings and he has missed the last 3 cuts in the golf torneys he has been in - I guess they are concentrating on other thing ;)

I guess it seemed to me a lot more ladies were #1 without winning GS's - it is definitely looking a lot better now for women's tennis now. Sharapova could well be back at #1 is she wins the French - and she is looking good so far.

Caroline was able to get to #1 with consistent play and playing many tourneys. She had alot of points to defend since January and it was virtually impossible for her to be able to defend them. She has no title wins this year and her record is 20-10. She's not very good on clay, I don't know why because her game suits it better than another surface.

Caroline needs a coaching change, develop more weapons or she'll be out of the top 10 soon.

In defense of women's tennis, the men's #1 for last 10 years has been Roger, Nadal or Djokovic. They have won all but two of the last 8 years.

^In some ways, the womens game is actually more interesting to me now than the mens. A couple of years ago the WTA really was in shit, but now they're upping their literal game. Mens tennis is great in a different way, but, until the SF's of big events, very predictable.

Seppi wins the 1st set against Novak... Cibulkova wins the first set against Azarenka.... curse of Aussie open champions?

I still reckon Novak will win but he is looking a little out of sorts at the moment. Both men playing well - with winners from both but Novak has a tad more unforced errors. I think the damper conditions are having an more of an impact on Novak.

Break for Seppi in the 2nd now... 6-4 4-2  He's won 10 of the last 13 games!

Novak looks VERY ordinary.

Novak needs to break here - he doesn't want to go 2 sets down!!! But all credit to Seppi - he is just playing so well!!

^6-5 Novak now... Seppi getting broken at 5-4 was fairly predictable. I think both are a little nervous. Also, I think the conditions are rather difficult.
