Was awake and just tuned in to ESPN's early morning coverage. After all the talk of Serena being a heavy fave, I'm

Serena didn't offer any excuses. She's being good for the last few months. The Tourney on the "blue clay"(Madrid or Rome) had many players complaining, Serena was pretty quiet.

She has certainly given no excuse except that she just didn't play well but to go from 5-1 up in the 2nd set tie break to 5-0 down in the final set is not something Serena does  She is probably the most mentally tough player on the tour since Martina Navratilova and has been playing well so far this season - none of her playing herself into tournements like she has done in previous years. I just think there is something else going on - but hey - maybe she just had a really bad day at the office!

This is taking nothing away from Razzano - she stepped up and really won the match - being 2 points away from a straight set defeat. I hope she keeps her focus and does well in the torney!!

And the "Unger Games" continue per Chris Fowler of ESPN. :P

Don't think Fed is going to let the fourth set go though, he's already up 3-0.

Fed closed it out to 3 in that 4th set - but gotta credit Unger he really took it to Roger in that 3rd set and did well to fight off two match points to take it to 4th set. Unger had some lovely movement and some great shots - if he had played the first couple of sets like that who knows where that match could have ended up!!

Good to see Del Potro got through in 4 as well - as possible quarter final set up with Fed if all goes to plan I believe.

Petra Martic has some skills. She's one to look out for over the next few years (currently one set all with Bartoli)

Brian Baker lost the first 2 sets to Gilles Simon but has come back to win the next 2 sets... 5th set has started.

ETA: Baker ran out of gas and lost 6-0 in 5th.

Should I bring up the fact the man's last name is actually Ungur (Hungarian, in Romanian in case anyone wants to know :P)? Not half-bad for his first GS outing in the main draw --at 27 :respec:.

@Lorac I agree I think there is something going with emotionally with Serena.

Youngster Sloane Stephens beat Brittany MS today pretty easy, 6-1, 6-1. Sloane will face
Mathilde Johansson(FRA)

I apologise - I usually look up the name to ensure I spell it correct but assumed it was spelt with an 'e' in this case as the commentators on UK TV seemed to be pronouncing it with an 'er' rather than 'ur'.

No worries. Am sure everyone (himself included) was shocked to see him make it into the main draw & do this well against Federer. Maybe this will serve as a motivator...

and I'll add in my own :cheer2: for Petra!

Did I miss something? Why do people hate Bartoli so much?

I like Bartoli if for no other reason than she reminds me so much of Seles. It is seriously freaky to watch her play. Or, it used to be. I haven't watched a match of hers in years. Anyway, Seles was my favorite player so it was fun to watch someone that looked so much like her. Kind of nostalgic for me.
