Kleybanova won her first match back, d. Larsson in three sets.

Navratilova should be careful what she says, though, because in her era, there was a whole lot of non-competitive 2&3, 45 minute matches in the early rounds.

Some of the up and down results in the women's game comes from inconsistency and choking, but the rest can be attributed to the growth of parity.

True enough in the early rounds -- however -- what disturbs me are the non-competitive matches among top 20 players and, often, in Grand Slam finals and semi-finals. To be frank, I get disappointed that the women just have not seemed able to develop rivalries and deliver strong matches often enough. I'm going to Wimbledon & US Open this year and truly hope I'm wrong, but past experience tempers my expectations.

OTOH it is truly a glorious period in the men's game, so perhaps I shouldn't be greedy. In fact, at Flushing Meadow, I've found a good portion of the crowds come to the women's matches strictly so they have seats for the men's matches that follow.

Speaking of Martina Navratilova, she is on Dancing with the Stars and is blogging about her experience for the LA Times:

And Marat Safin plans to get married  to model Anna Druzyaka in Moscow in early summer. Here's her management agency website: http://www.viewmanagement.com/models/655-anna-druzyaka

Without a doubt the best looking man I have ever seen in person.

:wuzrobbed Aleksandra Wozniak nearly came up with the win of her life against Venus Williams going to 7-6 in the third :( I was really hoping she'd pull through. Still a good week though and Aleks is tantalizingly close to getting a berth for the Olympics. She has nothing to defend until summer, I think she'll managed to find herself there. I really want her to make the Olympics.

Good win for Venus, messy match but a win is a win.

Aleksandra was a break up and serving for the match as well - Venus held her nerve when it counted most!!

I couldn't bring myself to watch it. Aleks has done this so many times. She can play with these players but just sometimes can't come up when the pressure counts. Aleks had the match point too and so many chances to close it out. Every opporunity to win. I'm sad for her but still she won a $100K+ last week and two matches here beating a seed. She will rocket up the rankings again.

Roddick v. Federer tomorrow. Fed only owns ARod 23-2 or something like that. I bet this time ARod turns it all around. :P

Total walkover for Fed. It's a shame; Roddick, while not the player he used to be, was finding some sort of form and meets Roger. I didn't have any hopes for Miami anyway but that's just cruel. Isner totally stuffed it up last night. I think Fish and Isner are finding it difficult when they're #1 American, and they realize that it's not as easy as it seems. I totally expect Fish to lose today to Anderson and I'll be surprised if he doesn't.

^Roger v ARod might be quite interesting. Then again, it probably won't be.

Some potentially good women match-ups for tonight:

Serena/Stosur
Woz/Wickmayer
Li/Lisicki

We'll see...

As expected, Fish lost his opening service game. He might end up winning but I highly, highly doubt it.

Serena/Stosur can be good but I think Sam is going to totally not show up.
