Kvitova lost to Li 1-6 7-5 6-2. She lead 6-1 3-1. I love Li, so I'm pleased for her. She really upped her game whilst Petra lost hers. I think it's only a matter of time before Kvitova is number one still.

Is this true?

RT @bobbychin: Players who could be #1 after @AustralianOpen, per @WTA -- Wozniacki, Kvitova, Azarenka, Sharapova, Stosur, Radwanska. 16 hours ago
If so, wow. Pretty exciting. (Though, Radwanska -- #1?)

The men's draw isn't particularly eyepopping, and the ladies is a yawn. Fish/Muller and Murray/Harrison could be good.

Unfortunately, I think that Rafa is too beaten down, maybe as much mentally as physically, and will be dropped in the QFs, if not before. Djokovic's draw is pretty good for him.

Vika will be #1 if she wins in Melbourne- I think that's even if other players like Kvitova do well.

Caro, Vika, Woz and Maria could definitely end OZ at no.1 - not sure about Aga and Sam!

:watch: Preach the truth, Rafa! (nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/46003384/ns/sports-tennis/)
Wow, suddenly some :cold: :drama: :o at the normally kumbayah Aussie Open

... the possibly bubbling up Rafa/Roger tiff and :kickass: plan to show rainbow flags on Margaret Court Arena throughout the tournament in peaceful protest of that vile woman's relentless anti-gay agenda.

Watching Radwanska v. Mattek-Sands. Fun match. M-S is rocking the drop shots! Radwanska's legs look soooo slender, I'm just marveling at them.

ETA: And since I cheer for her, M-S loses. Tomic just gave the Australian crowd something to cheer about, d. Verdasco!

:) Good opening day for the US boys, with Fish, Querrey, and Isner easily winning and The Donald putting his stamp on the tournament. :P Looking forward to seeing what Ryan Harrison can do versus Sir Andy M.

Ladies side, :cheer: Kim coming through easily. Eh, American gals limp as expected, but a good win by young miss McHale (over Safarova).

Meanwhile ...

:COP: Rafa is either severely hobbled and in continual pain, or this is the usual "he's too crippled to get out of bed most days, but will soldier on :drama: and win this in heroic fashion anyway" stuff from Uncle Toni and company.

Or half of each ... yeh, I'll go with that. GO RAFA!!!

Rafa does love a good ole whinge doesn't he?!

I can't wait for Novak to get started tomorrw :D

What a day for us Brits!

Watson lost 1 & 0
Robson lost 2 & 0
Keovathong retired after losing the first set 6-0.

Marvellous. To be fair, Watson lost to Vika and Robson to JJ, but still. Besides, Laura Robson was APPALLING against Jankovic. If she's to fulfill her so-called potential she needs to get her skates on. Terrible attitude and terrible movement is all I see so far.

Ward also lost in straight sets and Baltacha went down 2 & 4 to Foretz (whose first GS win it was since 05!) In some ways, I think this is the worst result of the lot - that was a VERY winnable match.

So we went 0-10 on sets on the first day  :scream:

Rafa injured his knee sitting in a chair?

RT @Kamakshi_Tandon: Nadal revealed he injured knee while sitting on a chair. Issues calls against hard surfaces in player lounge seating.

Has anyone looked at the 2012 schedule, its nuts.

Wimbledon is 2 weeks after Roland Garros; Olympics are 2 1/2 weeks after Wimbledon; US open is 3 weeks after the Olympics and Davis Cup semis 1 week after US open.

I can't imagine many of the top players will be playing Davis cup this year. I know David Ferrer and Rafa have already pulled out of Davis Cup,

Romania's CRistea playing exceptional today. Dictating play. 2 match points on Sam S.

Yep, Sam has not played well since the US open final. What has happened to her backhand, she couldn't hit any shot on the backhand side.

Murray, its time to stop playing with Harrison. Harrison has huge potential but not today. I like Andy. Can't believe he's coached by one of top three favorite players of all time. I love Ivan Lendl!!!!!
