But he will recover from this. It's in his nature. He'll pull from this that he was so so close and each time he gets closer to defeating him...He has to continue to believe that Novak will not continue to play like this forever.
I don't think the recovery will be so easy. Continued losses against a player starts to play on a person's confidence. Novak now affects Nadal the way Nadal affects Roger.
And, Novak's current play is no fluke or flash. He's been the definitive #3 player in the world since 2007. The things that kept him from the #1 position were stamina and belief. Now that he has those things, he's finally broken the Nadal-Roger hold--winning 3 of the last 4 slam meetings against Roger and 3 consecutive slams over Nadal. There's no reason for Nadal or anyone else to believe that Novak won't continue to play like he's playing.

80% chance of attending the Davis Cup here in Vancouver. Looking forward to seeing Milos and I have always admired Nestor (wow, I still remember when he last played here for the Davis Cup! So long ago!). But bummed that I won't be seeing hottie Gasquet! Boo!

Have a blast, mahn. Hope you get to go.
In other news - Djokovic was named Laureus Sportsman of the Year.
Also, Fernando Gonzalez is retiring after Miami.

Meanwhile, somewhere in Switzerland, on :sekret: the slowest clay on the market:
Big John spanks Swiss geezer ... USA 2 / SWZ 0 (www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2012/02/6/Davis-Cup-First-Round-Friday-Federer-Fish-In-Action.aspx)
 :rollin: :kickass:
Kudos to both Isner and Fish, who rallied from 1-2 sets down to defeat Wawrinka in the opener. :cheer:

I'm also evilly pleased, sorry to be petty, that Bogolomov -- in his first time representing Russia instead of the nation who has devoted many thousands of dollars, countless hours, and other resources including wildcards on his development -- was thumped by a low-ranked Austrian, and that Russia trails 0-2.

:cheer2: United States seals tie versus Switzerland!
Fish teams w/ Mike Bryan ... moves to 2-0 this weekend / drops Federer to 0-2.

Wow, Milos Raonic and Daniel Nestor playing doubles together... I think this is a test for the Olympics quite frankly. I hope they can stand a chance against a very experienced French team...

I show up to UBC and they announce Milos is not playing. Can anyone provide a reason?

Apparently he was feeling pain in his knee after the doubles... Quite frankly I think they made a mistake in putting Raonic in the doubles yesterday. He is good with his serve and groundies but he needs to work on his movement and net game. Pospisil is a really good doubles player and him and Nestor have played many doubles matches before so I think it's a mistake. I think those two had a better chance at beating the French but it's all moot now. They have to fight to maintain their spot in World Group Play...

Well, that sucked. Although the first match was entertaining. But I now realize I have no time for tennis when it doesn't mean anything (unlike, say, the gala portion of a skatng event, which I devour). Gael is certainly a character but when he purposely hit a shot wayyyy long, I knew the players weren't taking the match too seriously so I left earlier so I could get a decent dinner.
The first match was entertaining. I hope to see more pro tennis. Why is there not a WTA or ATP event in Seattle or Portland?

Rafa is considering legal action (offthebench.nbcsports.com/2012/02/12/rafael-nadal-might-sue-french-puppet-television-show-over-drug-related-skits/) against French TV smear skits, but I wish that he'd just let it slide. For one, the skits are sophomoric and clumsy (www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=rGdd_00QBBI) -- ignoring the skits is the best way to show how insignificant they are. Also, despite their obviously accusatory message ... it's ENTERTAINMENT.
Love ya, Rafa, but you really need to grow a thicker skin. Responding to accusations and insinuations from French players and PTB was commendable and worthwhile, but I'd recommend silently rolls your eyes at this television silliness.
Meanwhile, one of these days perhaps the French will take a deeper look into their collective heads and analyze why they simply must j'accuse whenever they're beaten. "If we can beat 'em ... accuse 'em! Everybody is doping but our pure and noble athletes. " :drama:

Is there anything Rafa doesn't whinge about?!
02-14-2012, 09:48 PM
Perhaps the one thing he should whinge about? The apparently complete dearth of underwear* in Spain that doesn't creep northward?
*big butts category
Loves ya, Rafa!

Wozniacki loses to Safarova after having 3 match points. I forecast her ranking dropping like a stone this year.

I believe it was even at 0-40 as well. Deary me.
