I'm so out of it I didn't know that Sergey's son is a tennis player. He looks a lot like his dad, too.

Just finished watching the womens final.

What let Maria down? Her movement and her one-dimensional game. Basically the story of her recent career,

Meanwhile Vika is getting more and more athletic and some kind of variety to her game. She's no Santoro, but she's got more to her game than just one-pace bashing. Today she had the tools to expose Sharapova, especially pulled wide to the BH and had the versatility to employ some kind of gameplan.

I think Vika has the perfect blend of power, control, consistency and aggression. She can with stand power so well, soak it up and also hit her own winners. Basically for now, Vika is pretty foolproof. I believe she's going to be very successful.

ETA: Meant to say that, despite the scoreline, there was some brilliant hitting in this match. It was so nice to see a player actually WIN the final, as opposed to the loser just being a bundle of nerves.

ETAA: Remember Meilen Tu? She was a fairly good player; now the wife of Azarenka's coach. She's looking hot! Seems she's very close to Vika.

Yeah, I posted about Meilen above. She's looking amazing. She and Vika are pretty close. Apparently she's been married to Sam Sumyk for years, which I wasn't aware of.

I don't know about other players, because there's only a few I follow on Twitter but Sveta tweeted Vika her congrats.

Oops sorry oleada, I missed your post re: Meilen. Anyway yeah, she is :smokin: I met her once, at the DFS Classic, years ago. She was sooo nice (which is basically why I'm going on about her now lol)

I wonder how Woz feels about Vika's win?

It's gotta hurt. I know her and Vika are friends, but I can't imagine Woz not being a bit  or jealous. Now both Kvitova and Azarenka are ahead of her in accomplishments. In an interview with Eurosport, Vika mentioned how a future rivalry with Kvitova would help the WTA, but no mention of Caroline.

I agree with you that Vika is VERY consistent, which isn't talked about as much. She rarely has WTF losses, and regularly beats down lower ranked opponents. Her only bad loss last year was to Erakovic.

I think it's the fact Vika and Caro are good friends which might make it hurt that little bit more.

I agree. Up until now, Caro's been the most accomplished of that group, but Vika's leaped way ahead of her. That must change dynamics a bit.

I do wonder how possible it is to be true friends, as highly competitive tennis players.

It'll certainly be interesting how Caro responds - not only to this - but from going from number one (where's she's been for ages) to four in one full swoop. I think it could go one of two ways; she'll either fall back into the middle of the pack OR the pressure will be off and she'll get some big results. Who knows.

Imagine if Radwanska won a slam next?! :yikes: :P

Caroline might have a mental breakdown.

I think regarding Caroline her career has already peaked. I have felt that way since June. I think by the end of this year she will be barely top 10. She hasnt improved her play or game in anyway for awhile despite staying #1 (a highly questionable one of course). Even Radwanska and Lisicki are surpassing her it seems.

I love what Vika is wearing in those shots--looks very "her" (sporty, casual). She also seems like a completely delightful person in the short interviews I've seen. Hopefully she won't have the post-GS meltdowns that some other recent champs have had and continue to be a force in most tournaments.

Fabulous pics! She looks gorgeous. I bet Vika is so much fun to know :40beers:
