In other news, there's that Olympic year syndrome of single players from the same country playing doubles and kicking ass. Zvonareva/Kuznetsova just took the women's doubles beating Errani/Vinci in the final.

I am glad tennis players are taking Olympics more seriously, though since Sampras era that is the case.

Yes, I like this too. Players are thinking "if that hairy Swiss guy who couldn't cut it in singles but won Olympic doubles can call himself an Olympic gold medalist, why not me too?" :saint:

But, seriously, it's fun. The introduction of Mixed into the Olympics has added even more :watch: and fun. I wanna see that Serena/Roddick pairing :), as this is surely Andy's last gasp shot at an Olympic medal.

And I wanna see Bethanie make the Olympics, too, if somehow she can sneak in for both ladies and mixed doubles. Not sure if this will be possible, though, if both Williamses end up healthy enough to enter ... as Huber would then likely take the non-Williams slot.

I like it too, Beefie. Mixed doubles in the Olympics should be a lot of fun. I'm glad the players are taking the Olympics so seriously now.

I feel bad Andy lost. But he almost had Novak. Andy's attitude is better and he's playing more aggressive.

Did you guys here about Tomic's standoff with the police over driving offenses? :wall:

Police are investigating allegations Tomic refused a direction to stop a third time and was followed to his luxury Southport home by a police car with its lights flashing.

Police reported the world No.38, whose licence they had seized, had locked himself in the house and refused to come out.

Classy. Ugh, I hope he never becomes #1. His ego is big enough as it is.

What an idiot!

Why does Australian Open play men semis on different days? I guess it won't make a huge difference, but it seems a little unfair that one guy has an extra day in between.

Ah, yes, the alternate days semifinals! A lovely Aussie Open wrinkle invented for the benefit of Sir Roger, who always got/gets to play the earlier match then has an extra day to rest and press his dinner jacket and tux shorts.

I dislike that scheduling oddity, too, but I believe that it can give far more than a little unfair advantage to the guy with an extra day's rest. It's HUGE IMO.

I do feel bad for him. I'd not want to hang around for an hour post match either.

No idea what will happen in the finals this time around. Rooting for Azarenka and Nadal though. I have a feeling this is the biggest match yet between Nadal and Djokovic. The winner could well wind up winning 3 or 4 slams this year, while the loser will be set back in a major way.

I would like to see a Slam won so whomever wins between Nadal and Djokovic, I hope they run the table. I guess I will root for Nadal because he will be hard to beat at the French but at the same time I think he is most likely to succumb to injury before the year is done.

Is it just me or does Nole look even skinnier?
