I am here in Salt Lake for Christmas and my friend Nathan Chen is not here. He is training with Rafael Arutunian, according to some of the local people. Not sure if this means he has moved full time to him or not. I know that in the summers he has worked with him.

I remember when Nathan was three and learning crossovers from Stephanie Grosscup. Needless to say he has come a long, long way. I'm still working on my singles! I should add I am 66.:)

You go, Marcia

Thanks for the news on Chen, it will be interesting to see how he develops over the years.

Thanks for the update on Nathan.
I envy anyone who has been able to watch his progress "up close".

I'm not really thrilled about his going to Arutunian. Many of his skaters become injured after working with him. Given that Nathan's grwoth plates haven't closed yet, it's even more troubling.:(

He has been working with Artunian since at least last summer. He still maintained his coaching relationship with Genia Chernychova up until at least the fall. I doubt that he would leave her given the strong relationship that he and his family have with her.

Rumours are that his relationship with Chernychova is not what it was these days which is why he is training with Artunian.

Nathan's official website has been updated to include upcoming Nationals and an appearance in February. There is no mention of an official coaching change. However, as Jayar posted, he has been training occasionally with Arutunian since the summer. Here's the quote-

07/03/2011

Nathan Chen: Young Star On The Rise - by Elvin Walker, International Figure Skating: Chen will move up to the junior level next season, despite not meeting the minimum age requirement to compete at the Junior Grand Prix level. As part of his development, he has sought out jump specialist Rafael Arutunian and travels to Lake Arrowhead, Calif. from time to time to work with him.

The website is here - http://www.freewebs.com/nathan_chen/

Personally, I don't look for a major change in coaching or location till he is a bit older and age eligible for junior grand prix at least.

He said on his Facebook that he was moving to California to train at Lake Arrowhead.
