Just curious, if we have all these ladies performing in the same competition with the said performance. Who would have won under 6.0 and COP?
Or it depends on where? :p In which case, Let's make it at the Olympics, would that make it the most politically neutral competition among them all? (Because the amount of International scrutiny over it)

Since an SP was included in this poll, this program should be considered.

FYI, this link goes to Midori Ito's 1992 NHK trophy SP if you can't/don't want to click on the link. ;)

^ Well, that's what the caption says. However, Midori did not compete in the fall of 1992.

That was an AWESOME triple axel! She made that short program look like a compulsory routine. You know she really had an excitement to her skating too when she was on and landing her jumps, that fire and excitement in her performances should also be considered a huge talent we don't see today (on top of the amazing jumps).
A lot of great skaters, even when they landed the jumps their presentation marks would go up (in large part because it was clean and they landed the jumps), when Midori landed the jumps she also had a fire and other-worldly type of quality to her overall program that made her deserve just as high presentation marks (esp in performances like that one). She wasn't as refined as finished as the other top ladies, but none of them had her spark and fire, either. She was the most talented skater of all-time IMO, probably in any discipline.
I picked Kwan's 98 Nationals. There wasn't a moment in that performance where I wasn't fully drawn in and everything was executed absolutely perfectly. There has never been a ladies skater ever who was so in control of every aspect of a performance, yet so relaxed, and never had an audience and country in the palm of her hand like that one. Combined with the theme and music, it was just magical and I'm still in awe over in. You will never, esp with COP, find so many great things wrapped up into one performance. Everything beautiful about ladies figure skating is in it and she didn't have a 3/3 or 3axel to "instantly" make it one of the best.

Well, it's her 1992 NHK SP in this thread until you correct it ;)

What is there to correct on my part? I only posted a link, which went to the program I was referencing. I'm not in the position to correct your's or anybody else's posts here or on YouTube.

You posted a youtube link and did not specify the SP (skater, competition, year) shown on the linked video. Since some posters in this thread had mentioned that they were unable to open YouTube links and the posts in response to the link did not specify the skater/program, I posted the contents of the video according to the youtube listing. Otherwise, someone just reading the thread and not wanting to click on the link would not know what program was being discussed.
You pointed out that the YouTube description was incorrect, but did not post the correct description. So, it remains a "mystery" to those reading the thread or watching the linked video until you or someone else posts the correct description in this thread.

For everybodies info, this link goes to Midori's 1991 NHK SP. Whoever uploaded the video to YouTube evidently put 1992 by mistake because the event took place during the 1991/92 season

Thanks Maofan, I'm no expert on Midori's programs. :)
:o Sorry to bardtoob about being a stickler on this; I just have a pet peeve about unidentified YouTube links in posts since I used to have trouble opening video links on my old computer and didn't know what folks were discussing sometimes.

Really? Why don't you go to every post that has done this and, in chronology order, demand the same thing? I'll be waiting for my turn to come  It shouldn't take too long. I can remember back when YouTube links weren't even allowed on FSU.
I don't understanding why some posters are being such jerks in this thread. We're discussing skating for fun, which is not exactly a situation where calling somebody brainless or poorly cited is appropriate. Now, if this forum was for defending dissertations on the history of figure skating, I am certain there are a few of the old guard that would be happy to school a few over zealous newbies.
Thanks Maofan, I'm no expert on Midori's programs. :)
Said the ill-mannered to the ill-mannered. To the ignore list with the both of you.

Agreed. IMO her greatest SP was in 1988. She skated it so well all throughout the season but her SP in Calgary is very special.
I agree, and this 2Axel from a counter was so amazing.

I think Ito's 1990 World LP was even better even though she got hosed and lost to Jill Trenary.

That 2A :swoon:
I actually think the black dress she wore at the Olympics (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIzYlQhiBRo ), which was more attractive than the yellow dress she wore in the fall (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TgQaLmVm9I), did less to highlight that 2A because with the yellow dress it was more obvious that Midori's hands were at her hips in the air.
Imagine that, counter entrance (+1) exceptionally high (+1) 2A with hands on the hips (+1) and landed with enough security that she could strike a pose during the landing (+1). This CoP does not even allow a +4 GOE.
Midori :wuzrobbed by the CoP.

I agree that her 1990 LP was even better but I don't think she got hosed. She was so low (10th) in the compulsories (Trenary was 1st) that it was nearly impossible for her to overcome that deficit. The only way she would have won was if Kristi had beaten Jill in the LP, which I believe Midori won. However, Kristi was struggling, trying to skate pairs and singles at that time, and she had 2 falls in her LP. She recovered but not enough to beat Jill. Based on the rules at that time, the results were correct, but I was so sad that Midori did not win after two amazing performances (SP & LP).

Jill clearly deserved 2nd in the LP at the 1990 Worlds so there was no way for Ito to have won and it would be wrong to say Jill didnt deserve to based on the rules as much as I like Ito and dont really like Jill. Midori needed Kristi to have a better skate and it didnt happen. Lebedeva or Cook were never going to beat a decent Jill in the LP.
I guess the only question was the SP phase while Jill botched but I would have probably still placed Jill 5th in the short, but behind Lebedeva and Neske, rather than behind Cook and Lebedeva. Itos final figure was so atrocious she probably should have been lower than 10th to be honest anyway.
