i always felt canadian ice dancing was way too political rafter, obviously they really love Paul Poirier for some reason i mean they shafted weaver and poje twice for C&P when they didn`t really deserve it especially in the olympic year when vanessa had the fall in the fd.

Has the tech panel given any feedback why they gave V&M the levels they did? Are they allowed to?

Well I agree with you here. Paul Poirier has always been a favourite of Skate Canada's, Louis Stong's, etc. That said, at this point, G&P are more dynamic than say P&I so I can't complain about the results. And Poirier's talent cannot be denied. However I don't think C&P deserved the Olympic spot over W&P especially when Crone fell on the twizzle in the FD.

I just noticed that V&M only received Level 3 for their rotational lift in the FD. Why? This is an element that has received Level 4 all season long. I wonder how long Marina stuck around (before flying off to San Jose for US Nationals) to get some feedback on behalf of Tessa & Scott.

Something is just very fishy here.

Perhaps Cherub was right and that they are being sent a message to leave Marina & Igor.

Wow this thread is moving insanely fast! I have a lot to catch up on...

And there have been several articles in the past in which they talked about how Tanith, Lauren, and Meryl, along with Brooke Castile, were all so close...

Hmmmm......food for thought. I can believe that as an explanation.

lauren senft was the assistant tech specialist, rock lemay was the tech specialist anyway those conspiracy theories are ridiculous i have been saying they needed a new fd since skate canada, they should not have tinkered with the sd so much.

Have I missed something... why is pani posting under the name m_chenning? (It's kind of obvious who it is lol)

Lol it's not pani I know m_chenning (not personally) from a Russian V/M site. Surprisingly pani is still MIA.

I was kind of hoping the lack of interaction with Marina meant something, but it was right back after the FD. Part of me doesn't think they'll ever make a change but I guess you never know.

...but I still think they have Marina's support...

...Marina is more supportive and I do believe she loves them and tries her best...

It's interesting reading these points because watching the programs back, I tried to pay attention to Marina's demeanor and to me Marina herself looked subdued and kinda sad both days. So I don't think she's trying to sabotage them at all, she's probably frustrated as Tessa and Scott. I don't know what went wrong with the SD, but hopefully she sees that it's not good and they go back to the old one (and get rid of the new music cut for mujer latina).

I think it'll happen. Most likely not until the end of the season, but it'll happen.

What's going to be interesting is what things are like at 4CC and Worlds.

Gerbil it seems you're pretty sure they are gonna change coaches no matter what at the end of the season. What makes you think that?

This new article (http://www.goldenskate.com/2012/01/virtue-and-moir-win-fourth-title-at-canadian-nationals/) makes me nervous cuz it says that they got good feedback on both programs, I'm not sure who gave good feedback on the SD, but if they leave it as is then I just don't know :(.

I agree, that is scary. Maybe the judges see something the rest of us don't.

Also, can someone confirm that they have always had trouble attaining level 4 for the 1st rhumba sequence only (but fine on the second one)? If this is the case, could it be that the 1st one is done to slightly faster rhythm and that's why they are having difficulty? If so, then it's more justification for putting both rhumba sequences in the temptation section (but somehow I don't think they will do this).

Also, I agree I don't understand why the rotational lift got L3 instead of L4 (which it got all season). Does anyone know the intricacies of assigning levels for such lifts?

no, skate canada had the first rhumba at level 4 and the second level 3

“We didn’t really care [about the marks], to be honest,” Moir said. “We were all about what we wanted to do today and we were really happy with our skate. I wasn’t really happy about that time deduction [extended lift] because I should have my lifts under time by January, but I’ll work on it.”

This is such bull, but hopefully everyone can be happy now that he's being PC.

I guess getting low levels at Nationals is not the worst thing that can happen; the last thing you'd want is to be lulled into a false sense of security about any call that's on the margin. And anything that gets them thinking about changes is good in my book. I mean, IMHO, the only thing Igor & Marina are good for besides politiking is creating level 4 elements, so if they are not even getting that, then why stay?

I don't think Platov has the political clout. I'm repeating myself here, but if Marina & Igor can coach V&M, D&W and the Shibs (and Chock & Bates), why can't Camerlengo & Krylova coach V&M, P&B and W&P?

I'm saying that it wouldn't make sense to leave a 3 top team group to go to another one.

Lol, it such bull. But whatever you gotta say, Scott! And you're right. The PC Police will be happy.

Oh but it would make sense to go to one that is a lot more creative and does better choreo.

Exactly - I know that it's a different sport, but in Chinese Nationals, the scores are generally much lower because they deduct for anything that is close.

Marina created many memorable programs for them, but seeing this new SD made me sad for T/S. It should be a dream come true to choreograph a Latin dance for a team with this much talent. This program simply doesn't do them justice.

Exactly!

TBH I didn't much like the original SD choreo, but they did skate it very convincingly. I'm not sure how Marina could have recommended these changes.
