:( That's really awful news - I wonder what illness could be sudden enough for Mao to learn about it just now and serious enough for her to withdraw and leave for Japan immediately. :pale: I hope her mum feels better soon. My prayers and best wishes go to the entire family.

Mao's mom has been ill for a quite some time, and her condition got worse..

no replacament for Mao

QUEBEC CITY, Que. - Mao Asada has withdrawn from the ISU Grand Prix Final to return home to Japan to be with her ill mother.

The two-time world champion and silver medallist at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics was expected to battle 14-year-old Russian Elizaveta Tuktamisheva in women's singles.

International Skating Union president Ottavio Cinquanta made the announcement at his opening news conference Thursday, saying Asada's mother is "critically ill."

Her spot won't be filled by another skater leaving the women's singles field at five skaters.

The 21-year-old Asada would have been competing in her first Grand Prix Final since winning it in 2008.

The event includes the top six skaters in each of the four disciplines following six Grand Prix events.

Canada doesn't have an entry in women's singles at the Final.

Adelina is currently competing in Croatia

That's terrible. ((((Mao and her family))))

There's no chance Adelina could make it in time, but aren't Mirai and Ashley in Los Angeles? They could be in Canada by 9p tonight.
