Still looking for Judy Blumberg on Bourne and Kraatz. And not finding. But it's been fun watching these great old programs of B&K!

Did Judy perhaps ever do commentary for CBC or CTV?

I don't think they are online- but honestly they do exist:lol: If I had a better internet connection I could upload them for you. If you are interested let me know. Maybe over the Christmas holidays I could provide a link. I also have her Annasinna/Peizerat commentary as well. Like I said it was ESPN not ABC- though I would have loved to have heard her and Dick commenting together- I think it would have been similar to the Tracey Wilson/Toller Cranston CBC situation.

Judy did commentary for ESPN with Chris Bowman in 1999, for Worlds.

I like her a lot..and I love Peter Carruthers.

Did Judy ever do commentary about Bourne & Kraatz?

Back in that day, it was usually Sandra Bezic, Tracy Wilson, or Susie Wynne. Or Dick Button himself. Dick did the dance at the 1998 Olympics.

Judy Blumberg worked for ESPN from 96-99. She did the commentary for ESPN's coverage of the OD at Nationals and Worlds, and she did the commentary for the ESPN rebroadcast of the FD. ABC/ESPN dumped Judy for Susie Wynne at the start of the 99-00 season.

Tracy Wilson did the commentary at the 1998 Olympics, which were on CBS.

I wanted to like Tara because I liked her as a skater but her commentary is awful.

She giggles and laughs all the time, interrupts Terry, and makes major errors in a skater's performance seem like it's no big deal. It just seems like nothing is ever serious. Plus her voice is grating.

I liked Weiss though.

Judy was extremely complimentary to V&M at the event she was the commentator for this year (Skate Canada). However, some V&M fans have complained about her commentary in the Worlds SD. I've transcribed most of it here, since I don't see the video with commentary on youtube any more:

The commentary free video is here:

And yes, V&M did not get credit for the key point in the GW where Tessa was on the wrong edge.

Probably easier to watch these videos instead where you get the US coverage with Judy commentating:

After watching the two videos, she comments about similar things yet uses different language to convey a tone.
For instance, when talking about footwork by V/M, she says they are slow but carving deep edges. When talking about he footwork for D/W, she says they are carving deep edges and taking their time to do it and doing so cleanly. The first commentary has a negative connotation to it while the second one doesn't.

With V/M it seemed that anything she could find that might be wrong, she point it out yet she glaring leaves out mistakes by D/W i.e. the mistake on the twizzles. She says that Charlie does the catch a bit late but still has good things to say about the twizzles and how fast they are. Well I watched and I say they are out of sync at times. Hmmmm ... nothing said about that mistake.
She acknowledges snow on the three turns by D/W but says it's very little and only comments on it once when in fact they both did it twice; her comment about the snow by Scott -- well there was too much of it and he should be skating on the blade and not the toe picks and you shouldn't be doing such.

She commented more than once about how slow V/M were yet speed was never a problem, apparently, for D/W.

And then there was the lift. According to her, D/W has a very interesting rotational lift near their end. V/M's lift was - apparently - simple.

She is impressed with the speed of D/W --yeah, speed it nice, sometimes. It can also be used to cover up things. She also thought they had better flow than T/S. Really?!?!

Her reaction to the score by V/M sounded like she was confused by how high it was ... almost as though she were annoyed and somebody better explain to her why it was so high cause it certainly wasn't that good in her books. OTOH, she was soooo excited by the marks put up by D/W -- I almost thought she was going to orgasm. And to top it all off after she sees the score for D/W she's like
"but ugh, once again, not quite enough to catch V/M"

Yeah, your bias is showing there woman. So glad I don't have to listen to her unless I want to ... which in most cases is a big fat NO.

Yea it wasn't even necessarily her comments that showed bias, it was the TONE she did it with that stuck with me.

Thanks for the links.

I had watched the 2011 links before, but I was looking for B&K ones, which I did not recall--and no wonder since in 1996 to 1999 we were living in the back of beyond.

I figured you had since you found a transcript somewhere. I just thought it'd be easier for people to actually see and hear for themselves and since you couldn't find it on youtube I did it for you :D

That was Andrea Joyce, not Judy Blumberg.

In fact, that's why I've been a little ??? about this.

Judy gets that tech specialist voice, and when she does commentary, it's kind of stream of consciousness-she went on about the snow because it is not a tech call, it is a judge call, to clarify that. It isn't a particularly attractive voice, but it's the one she uses. Andrea on the other hand has the rah rah for the US job & naive question job as the non-color commentator.

I definitely prefer Terry Gannon to Andrea Joyce.

And I was really ??? about 1996 to 1999 Judy/ESPN/Worlds because ABC did Worlds in that time frame, and it was Dick Button and whomever even for dance.

Did ESPN do a rebroadcast of Worlds with their own commentators?

I've seen footage of Judy Blumberg and Cristopher Bowman commenting on a secondary network, but I couldn't tell you which one. It might have been TNT or TBS rather than ESPN.
