^So that is why Lysacek was so class to Bob Costas interview? because he was on the winner side? Cause all i was reading back then was how gracious he was about his opponent.

I saw an article online that said Plushenko was giving up politics in order to prepare for the 2014 Games. I did not know he was a politician.

If you are talking about the interview the day after the men's final in Vancouver in 2010, IIRC Lysacek stated that he and Plushenko were tied on the artistic scores but that he (Lysacek) got slightly higher technical scores. That's not showing a lack of "class", it's stating the truth.

Lysacek also praised Plushenko for all the hard work of making a comeback and said that he admired Plushenko and his accomplishments.

Here's a Pravda article in English titled "Evgeni Plushenko quits hopeless politics for sports career": http://english.pravda.ru/russia/politics/02-12-2011/119822-Evgeni_Plushenko-0/

at least he admits he won't try to skate at 2018 Olympics :shuffle:
I'm really curious about the upcoming Russian Nationals!

For those who didn't see the US NBC broadcast of CoR today: Plushenko said he is 'finally' healthy, wants to go to Russian Nationals, and wants to stay until Sochi.
Also, he misses everyone -- his fans and enemies.

1. Eh,the flower tossing doesn't bug me. Those flowers looked like broccoli anyway. I hate broccoli.

2. It's easy to be gracious when you're on top. Harder when you're not.

3. Regardless of my response to his skating (not positive), the way he came out at CoR 2009 and ripped off those 4-3s like it was nothing impressed the hell out of me and frankly, makes me not want to underestimate him.

4. I'm impressed that he's going to Nationals this season - I thought he'd wait until next year.

How do you know that they are (only) skating fans???:D

I'm afraid I missed the punch line. Why would anyone care a whit about Plushenko if they weren't a skating fan? It's what he's known for and why he's in the public eye.

I respect Plushenko for his great achievements and outstanding motivation. But at the same time, it's kind of sad that he'll probably win the Russian Nationals, because there are no younger skaters in Russia who could beat him. Anyway, that's not Plushenko's fault. If it's obvious that he is still competitive at the national and probably at the European level, why not give it a try? And if he does well at Europeans, he may as well receive extra reputation points at Worlds, and though I don't think he is one of the top competitors in the world at the moment, I believe that it's not impossible for him to medal thanks to consistency and reputation points.
Not that I'd be excited to see this scenario (Marton :blah:), but still.

Um, Irina, dumped her flowers in the bin at SLC so there's a tradition. It's called disappointment. And whoever said Nancy Kerrigan was gracious to Baiul apparently forgot the eyerolling about her crying and other comments. It's sports people. Athletes invest a lot of money and time and if they don't get a return on their investment, they often aren't happy. This isn't 5 yos playing soccer or baseball where everybody gets a turn. They are adult athletes. I  at how some figure skating fans get all upset when a skater doesn't act genteel. And, by the same token, those that are media savvy get bashed for the canned line of "I just wanted to have fun." And the :drama: over the perceived trash talk in skating to the media is hysterical. Some fans look for offense in every word or nuance.

Go Plushy. :kickass: and make them cry.
