Yes, it is too early to say Patrick's difficulty with the 3A was due to the split, but I just happen to be a worrywart. I'm sure once his new team is assembled, I will be able to relax....I hope.;)

lolol

I have to admit I am not comfortable with the thought that Christy left Patrick's team because I think she played a major role in cleaning his overall technique and Patrick himself admitted he wouldn't be where he is now with the quad jumps if it hadn't been for her - btw, Patrick nailed a few gorgeous quads this past season, some of the best, if not the best, I've ever seen and some of his other jumps, if not most of his other jumps, beat everybody else's in GOEs when he landed them well.

I am 100% behind Patrick in his desire to focus more on artistry - he seems to be aspiring to the perfect mark of 10 from all the international judges on all his components because his CSs are already very high lol - but I'm afraid no artistry in the world will bring you titles in competition if you lose your jumps. So, I do hope it's not going to happen and Patrick's team will find a strong replacement for Christy as competitive figure skating is a sport ahead of anything else it is.

Once again to bad some 'fans' can't learn a lesson from it. I'm a proud Chan fan(and Canadian) too no matter what anyone throws at him and I love Dai's skating as well and they both seem like great people which means more than anything.

I am not Canadian but a proud Chan fan I certainly am, Patrick is a wonderful skater.:swoon:

Thanks idee123. I don't really know Randy as I am not Canadian. But based on the few articles he wrote, he seems like someone who always stick up for the amateur athletes .. a sports writer and friend indeed. Sniff sniff ... nice heartfelt words from Patrick.

Have you ever seen the vid "The naked truth about Patrick Chan"?

It's one of the best interviews with Patrick made by Randy Starkman.
Randy extracted Patrick's adorable personality. I remember how I was attracted by the witty comments and "naked" truth of Patrick Chan when I first saw this vid.

I appreciate Randy's works and feel sorry for Patrick for his deep sorrow.

Thank you ali dorate for this interview. I have never seen it before. OMG, Patrick is indeed so goofy .. still is (a big kid as Kurt described him). Patrick always come across as a very spontaneous person which of course have gotten himself in trouble when words are taken out of context. :P But it this refreshing spontaneity without malice which I truly like in this young man.

The many reactions and comments by athletes I read clearly demonstrate he was truly respected and loved as someone who was more than a journalist, he was a trusted friend. It is rare these days to trust journalists due the unfortunate actions of some who manipulate the outcome by putting comments out of context. Not Randy. Did not come across as a journalist who set traps for personal agenda. One can understand the sense of loss among these athletes who have the opportunity to know him. (I will copy these comments to Randy's memorial thread).

Thanks ali_dorate for posting that interview. Sad for Patrick and his present upheaval and grief. He's so cute in that interview. I wish the haterz would give him a chance. I hope he comes out with 2 of the strongest programs next year. He needs strong but melodic pieces of music.

Patrick posted about Randy Starkman on his Facebook 5 hours ago.

"On Randy Starkman

I was absolutely shocked and really sad.

Randy, as a writer, your journalism always carried with it an inspiring charisma and excitement for the amateur athletic scene. You were truly the best at bringing our stories to life.

As a friend, your personality and sense of humour made you extraordinarily likeable. You always had my back and were always someone I could talk to when I had something to get off my mind.

You will be missed dearly by the sports community. You will be missed dearly by those who knew you. Thank you, Randy, for being a genuine writer and friend."

thank you for posting this. gosh, my heart goes out to Randy's family+friends, and I hope they get to read/hear about how much his work meant to amateur athletes, coaches, and fans.

thank you! their relationship is very sweet. I am so happy for Dai--he was on fire in the FS! just awesome! well-deserved victory in the men's portion of the event. I am glad he had such a wonderful moment in front of a home crowd, and it is very nice to hear that he and Patrick have only kind things to say about each other. Like sequins said, that respect is a great thing.

Thanks, ali_dorate! I had read the quotes about Jessica Alba and Wayne Gretzky, but had never seen this vid. very funny! I hope this isn't geo-blocked.

That exhibition is exquisite...by far my favourite ex Patrick has ever done. Rachmaninoff is my favourite composer, and Patrick really conveys the
emotional complexity of that piece.

I hope Patrick and all the skaters can now relax and take a vacation. They have certainly earned it.

Thanks figuristka. I love this vid of little Patrick. He is always 'smiling and laughing', and I love to look at pictures of Patrick with Mr Colson too. In my eyes .. the old master and the little kid.

BTW, Kurt could still comb his hair then. :P

I don't know who made this vid, but I find it so 'silly-ly' hilarious and had a good laugh.

If I could have a moment with Patrick I would say "have a great, well deserved break Patrick. I, for one, look so forward to seeing what you bring to the ice next year. I am a proud Canadian and claim you as a national treasure - and feel you have really moved men's skating forward in so many ways. I hope you are in a happy place as a skater and athlete, as well as a young man with so many other talents and interests. I hope you have a chance to be carefree".

Amen to that!!! It's going to be a long off-season so I hope for any tidbits of new available from those who are resourceful enough to find them ;)
