No wonder there is a push for a junior skater who only skated in one JGP now.

There's always a push for the young thing coming up through the ranks. USFS and the fans just love those who have unlimited potential and the hyping of very young skaters is nothing new and not limited to the 2006-2010 quad or any other period where there wasn't a clear front-runner on the US skating scene.

Heck, I remember when Rachael Flatt was a Novice and got featured on the broadcast of the Gala the year she won and people were hyping her like crazy. It's revisionist history to say she wasn't hyped.

The thing is, when the skaters are in Novice and Junior, they are all potential. When they get to Seniors, they have to deliver and that's when the tide turns and they get picked on for everything they do and people wag their fingers whenever they don't deliver on the hype.

And the reason Caroline Zhang got hyped in spite of poor technique is that she had the elusive "it" factor going for her. Her skating grabbed people and allowed them to overlook her flaws. Unfortunately, she seems to have lost that over time and now the flaws are what people see and some of those who didn't see her skate as a Novice or the early Junior years find it incomprehensible.

^^^ This. At least Meissner, who was hyped as a youngster, won a World title and got to compete at one Olympics, flaws and all (getting back on topic ;)).

Same thing is now happening with Gracie Gold. Ugh

Exactly. Potential is just that...potential. Nothing more. And to top it off, this is usually the period that they're going through some adjustment period (such as a growth spurt or coach change).

I think Alissa's issues in her first 2 GP events this year are really different from the shakiness she displayed before 2010.

She's been working on upgrades and new combinations, so of course there are going to be issues.

Her bomb at GPF was hopefully caused by injury. I'm not hoping she was injured, but just hoping that performance was a situational thing.

The 3ltz-3t is not a new combo for Alissa. The only new jump she was supposed to introduce this season was the sal, but it has yet to make an appearance. The 2A has always been iffy for her, and this season she seems to be rotating almost outside of the circle on that jump, which make the landings kind of cringe-worthy.

I agree with Iceman and thanks for the clips! I thought Kimmie looked like a lovely, graceful lady now.

Here are youtube links to her numbers in the Holiday Moments show:) What a beautiful holiday show Disson put together with David A and MS! Enjoy:

I was trimming my tree with this on in the living room. It really put me in the holiday spirit:;)

Thank you for sharing these! I never go out of my way to catch the Disson shows, so I would have otherwise missed these performances. The first link is quite lovely and graceful -- very nicely skated by Kimmie!

I was pretty harsh in 2006 with Kimmie, but just before she disappeared she was skating quite lovely.

That GP season was why I never gave up on Kimmie. Everyone at the time was saying she's done, she's toast, blah blah blah (even though they were right :P), I was so shocked at how far her presentation had come that I wanted her to have her comeback competition where she laid a performance down that validated her 06 win a bit more, even if she didn't win a medal like that again.

Looking back now, I think she has. I wish more people who dismiss her Worlds win (I wasnt big on her artistry at all either, but honestly I would've had her as World champ with those performances last year as well :shuffle:) would watch these programs to see how far she did come even though her jumps had left her (well, at least according to that caller). I'd even venture to say her artistry in these are just as good as anything we are seeing winning the big competitions today. She really had basic skating to die for, only Kostner would rival her there today IMO.

she was also at Bryant Park skating last weekend. She skated to Adele's Rolling in the Deep. I decided to check it out- it was a nice show, Bobek, EHughes and Gregory/Petukov were also there.

Wow, Sarah looks to be the best shape she's been in since she was skating competitively, and she and Emily are looking more and more alike as they get older.
