IMO, he planned it before. The magic spell was the entire reason he wanted Emma to fight the dragon.

I agree. He had to have had a plan all along. Otherwise his tying up Regina didn't make sense. The actual details of the spell might have changed, but he was up to something prior to Belle's appearance. I know he didn't realize her exact whereabouts, but he had to know she was there in some form. I would assume he would not have wanted to put her at risk with whatever his plan was at that point.

That was fantastic. Emma is such a wonderful protagonist. She is so practical--of course, she would use a gun to kill a dragon!

In some ways, I am more interested in the flashbacks. I am interested how Snow and Charming overtake the King, the Queen and Rumple.

This was a very strong first season. An initial burst of creativity and greatest, then a bit of a slump in the middle (as the creators realize, OMG, people are watching and I have to make more episodes!) and a resounding finish.

Vastly amused that Emma now believes so quickly
.

And when they said she wouldn't believe this season, too. I'm glad I learned a long time ago not to trust anything that show writers say in interviews.

AHHHHHH!!!!

That was crazy! Payoff was SO sweet, although I do feel a little robbed that we didn't get to see Snow and Charming reunite with their daughter. They can do it in the new season, of course, but it would have felt SO good to see it in the finale.

Whatever that curse is, it's going to be a mixed bag. Rumple is going to be the Dark One again, and that is all sorts of bad. He's shown that he does have a heart, what with Belle and Bae, but once the dark magic gets ahold of him again, I don't see him turning any more good.

Gah. Can't wait to see if August survived; maybe the return of magic means he can clunk about in his wooden form? And man, it sure was chilling to see that Sydney Glass ended up in the mental ward. 8-o That Regina is a real witch!

Snow and Charming's reunion with Emma needs to happen ASAP in the new season! Poor Emma has been waiting her whole life to find her family and now that she believes in this whole thing, you have to think the first thing she would want to do is meet them. Boy, she knows MM for sure, not David too much yet, so how is she going to deal with them actually being different than the people she all ready knows?! She'll probably be thrilled her father isn't the toolshed she thinks David is, LOL  I think I will actually be upset if they don't give us that reunion right off the bat next year. They all deserve it! :biggrinbo

I have no clue what Rumpel is actually up to or what he thought would happen but I agree that him having his magic back is going to be QUITE interesting. Regina may get her magic back too but so does everyone else who has it so she may not get as much as she thinks post purple smoke monster.

The producers have all ready said that August's story isn't over yet so I hope the follow up with him right away next season too. That was SO sad when he turned into all wood right in front of Emma's eyes. :fragile:

The best scenes of the entire episode were in the hospital when Emma was reacting to Henry's death. I've watched the episode twice now and gotten teary both times watching her say goodbye to Henry. Their reunion after she saved him was SO precious and I loved that Henry said "I love you too" back to his mom! Happy Mother's Day Emma! :cheer:

Other fave scene tonight was the dragon slaying and how it went back and forth between Emma and her father. So awesome! The CGI effects have gotten SO GOOD on this show (thank you ABC for ponying up the money for that, LOL) and I was impressed all the way around with that. I think those are the 1st scenes Jen Morrison has had to do with full out CGI too and I thought she was fantastic. I'm sure it won't be her last now either, LOL  The contrast between Charming trying to put the egg into Malificient and Emma trying to slay her to get the egg were so well done. Anyone else catch how Emma slayed the dragon? She was using Charming's sword but she did it almost exactly like Charming tried to do at the wedding when he threw his sword at Regina (she poofed into smoke). She said "Hey!" and then threw it almost exactly like he did although her throw actually worked. Loved that little added touch and I didn't even catch it on my first viewing! Like father like daughter! :D

Loved loved loved the finale and I know this won't be the last time I watch the episode before the new season starts this fall. Fantastic season! :cheer2:

Oh, I'm so glad. The show's rules about magic are so convoluted, I couldn't figure out if he was going to make it or not!!

I am wondering though, like Emma did, why everyone didnt revert to their former selves and also return to Fairytale Land.

Part of the "mythology" of the show was that Emma was the one who could break the curse, which would start some sort of battle. I don't recall anyone actually saying that the fairytale characters would go back to their realm after the curse was broken, just that they'd remember who they were. Rumple constructed the curse, he sent everyone to this world because that's where Bae is. Rumples couldn't leave Storybrooke because of the curse, so of course he wanted to help Emma break it. But there's no way he's going back to the Enchanted Forest until he can find Bae.

When the curse was broken and the nurses and Dr. Whale were standing there looking stunned, I started wondering who Dr. Whale was in Fairytale land. I'd never really thought about it before. I wonder if he was anyone significant.

Some people think he's Monstro the Whale from Pinocchio. Which would have made things extremely interesting if everyone had suddenly reverted back to their former selves. :)

David Anders is a pretty big name in TV (Alias, 24, Heroes), he probably is meant to be someone important. The exec producers hinted that they would give Dr. Whale a bigger storyline in season 2.

Happy Mother's Day Emma! :cheer:

Almost like the date of the last episode was planned. ;)

Rumple said that this spell (I don't want to call it a curse) would "bring back what was lost." Did I get that right? I think he cast it to get his son back, but the real question is, what else will it bring back?

It's remarkable how much of this has evolved into a battle among parents over their respective children: Emma and Regina fighting for Henry, vs. Rumpel fighting for Bae, vs. Jefferson fighting for Grace. And of course a lot of this was kicked off by Geppetto fighting to save Pinocchio, not to mention Snow and Charming fighting to save Emma!

I thought he was just casting a spell to get his magical powers back, that's why Regina had that EVILLE smirk at the end. Rumples said that magic is power, but other than being a megalomaniac, maybe he thinks that having powers will help him find Bae?
