Andy's retirement was definitely short - he signed off on 60 Minutes on October 2nd and he is now dead according to this CBS news story: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18560_162-57319150/andy-rooney-dead-at-92/

He was hospitalized last week and had surgery. RIP Mr. Rooney, although, he wouldn't want anybody giving him a lot of attention. :shuffle:

Sad news. I enjoyed his work on 60 minutes and looked forward to guests spots.

Can people know that it is coming soon? He always said he wasn't going to retire until he dies...

It seems a lot of iconic people retire and then pass away rather quickly. Steve Jobs was another. IIRC, Charles Shultz retired and then passed away the day his last installment of "Peanuts" appeared in newspapers.

I always enjoyed his segment from 60 Minutes. So sad to hear this. Thank goodness he had a long life. I have one of his books of anecdotes. I definitely will be rereading that book.

Actually a lot of people die soon after retirement, not just iconic ones.

It's a statistic I read somewhere...
