I totally disagree with this. Diana evoked emotions - both positive and negative - because of all the drama surrounding her marriage falling apart. Before that she was similar to what Kate is now - a popular member of the Firm because of who she married. After her marriage fell apart and up to and following her divorce Diana played the press for all they were worth to (artifically IMHO) set herself up as a 'Queen of Hearts. She really worked that angle for all it was worth to evoke as much sympathy as she could - and I can fully understand whay she did that. And of course once she died in that awful and tragic manner at a young age she was put up high on a pedastal and it has taken a long time to many people to accept she wasn't perfect.

Of course Kate won't evoke those extremes of sympathy because her situation is so much different - but there is no doubt from all thsoe who are meeting her that she has a huge pull with the public who are taking ehr to their hearts and I believe has the potential to grow into as much of an icon as Diana was.

THIS^

I couldn't have said it better,.

All that being said, I do think that aside from apparently being a great mother, Diana's most important and impressive legacy was her charity work, and I really do think that in some ways she changed the world. Unfortunately, all the skandal and drama and celebrity has obscured much of that.

Kate is just one year in - think back to where Diana was in 1982. Big difference I think.

ITA w/this. Many either forget or just weren't around when the AIDS Epidemic was at it's height when it came to fear and just not knowing enough about this horrible disease. W/one photograph, of Diana shaking hands w/an AIDS sufferer w/out wearing gloves, that did more for AIDS awareness than any multi million dollar campaign would have done.

That and also taking on the Landmines issue in the months before her death did so much good, but because scandals sell more papers, even fifteen years later on... Well, you said it yourself Jenny. It tends to obscure the good she did in her life sadly.

Katie Couric to do an interview with Prince William and Henry regarding the Diamond Jubilee. (http://content.usatoday.com/communities/entertainment/post/2012/05/queen-katie-couric-snags-her-princes/1) The interview will also feature some video of Prince Andrew and his daughters as well as some members of the staff.

It amazing how in full wind with all that hair she can still look fabulous. I recall the footage when she got off the plane in Ottawa for their Canada trip last summer and everyone was a mess in the wind, but she looked fresh as a daisy.

Must have been all those years up at St Andrews that prepared her

I for one can't wait for a fashion review of this Friday's Sovereign's Lunch (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/the_queens_diamond_jubilee/9267384/Monarchs-The-worlds-most-exclusive-club-gathers-for-the-Queens-Diamond-Jubilee.html). :watch:

Non-Jubilee-related query: I have been trying in vain to find video of the wedding of TRH Crown Prince Philippe and Crown Princess Mathilde of Belgium, Duke and Duchess of Brabant (http://guestofaguest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/crown-prince-phillippe-princess-mathilde-group-royal-weddings-590ar021011_jpg.jpg), in December 1999......anybody have any leads?

Ooops...He's done it again...

Daily Mail ~ 'I would get arrested if I unzipped that dress!': What politically-incorrect Prince Philip said about the lady in red (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2145190/Prince-Philip-Hannah-Jackson-blonde-red-dress-Id-arrested-I-unzipped-that.html)

Usually when Phillip makes one of his outrageous remarks, I can understand the uproar, but this time? This time I can see the funny side of it and he is right. If anyone had tried to unzip that lady's dress in public, they would have been arrested.

91 years old and still full of vim and vigor at that. I wish my Dad was like that. :(

Oooh...One of my very favourite Royal Wedding Gowns. I've never seen any videos of their Wedding Ceremony though Fergus, but I'll check over at their thread in the Weddings part of The Royal Forums. If there's anything online showing Phillipe and Mathilde's Wedding, it'll be over there.

Thanks for all the info about the big Lunch on the weekend. Can't wait!! :D

And it's not like someone wearing a screaming-red dress with an obvious zip front can argue they were attempting to maintain a low profile.

Clearly, he was kidding, and pretty good for a 91-year-old man who had a heart procedure last winter. And it's not like it's Bill Clinton or a Kennedy where there's some genuine concern he might actually do it...
