She knows how to be youthful and modern, when appropriate; as well as traditional in style, when that is necessary/right for the occasion.

Another lovely dress from Kate:

Love the cream gown. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2141445/Be-careful-sitting-dress-Kate-Duchess-wows-floor-length-cream-gown--thigh-high-split.html#)

 WOW! That's an amazing look. Showstopper is right.

The Met Gala is a Gay High Holy Day. :D

Though at the next synod we might elect to ditch it, there's so little glam nowadays, it's just a freak parade. :drama:

HRH wore the same Jimmy Choo's she wore at the BAFTA shindig in LA, IIRC?

"She normally wears plain nude, black or navy court shoes with a lower heel, so the choice of silver strappy sandals were quite a surprise."

I agree with the first part of this statement, ie. that she tends to stick with basic colour and court shoe style. I suspect that the style is based on comfort. She is on her feet for a long time at engagements so comfort is important. The low heel bit, I think not. I would say a good 95% of Kate's shoes are 4 inches or higher. I'm not sure how that can be described as "low heels."

Love the dress!

I think you may be correct: BAFTA shoes (http://www.katemiddleton-pictures.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/FP_7577384_BARM_Royals_BAFTA_09_10.jpg)

The dress allowed her to show sophistication that her "public" attire rarely permits.
The shoes only added to that.

I also think that the dress is beautifully tailored and while it could have been a bit severe, the slit and the heels definitely save the look from that. Perfect balance and elegance.

Exactly - Kate just has excellent dress sense and knows when to add that additional 'wow' to her outfits which she did with those shoes and earrings. I personally think this was a bit of an 'in your face' to that shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood who criticised her the other week for playing it too safe when it comes to footwear. Kate was showing that she does have fancy dressy up shoes when the occassion calls for it. It's just that most of her appearences now adays are all day affairs where she is walking/standing around for long periods - and needs shoes that are comfortable to her and if LK Bennett suit her then she should stick to them and ignore the critics!!

But still last night she looked absolutely awesome - sexy and sophisticated all in one go :swoon:

Never heard of the tasteless wannabe. :P

Seriously, this guy knows nothing of style, what's appropriate for the occasion and your position, what suits a woman, and for that matter what's "princess-y."

My guess is that the guy really wants her to wear his shoes since anything she wears sells out immediately.

I saw one article giving him credit for her choosing these shoes which seems ridiculous since she has worn them previously.

That's what I meant by wannabe - he wants her to wear his shoes, and he wants to ride on her (very stylish) coattails by being controversial and trying to position himself as a style expert.
