The Birmingham Mail did a major boo boo today by releasing an article detailing Kate's Charities/Patronages she's chosen. The major boo boo? That information is still under an embargo under the official release is put out by the Palace. It's since been taken off of their website, but according to members of The Royal Forums, one of them deals w/Addictions and helping those who are battling that disease.

Which is great, as having Kate as their Patron can only help w/the work of trying to deal w/the stigma of Addiction that is still sadly held by so many people out there. Also w/an Uncle as a Recovering Addict (Drugs IIRC) this was also a very personal choice for her as well.

So I'm guessing that tomorrow the official release will be made. Or maybe even later today since the cat's out of the bag a bit.

edited to add...Action on Addiction UK Home (http://www.actiononaddiction.org.uk/home.aspx)

edited *again* to add...And sure enough, the announcement is now Official.

June Scutter, who as Brown Owl awarded the Middleton sisters their toymakers’ badge in the 1st St Andrew’s Brownies in Pangbourne, Berkshire, said last night: “I am absolutely thrilled. I never imagined when Kate was a Brownie that one day she would become the ambassador for the Scouts.”

:D

Also...A very Happy 91st Birthday today to Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg!!!

Gawd. How many times did they call Kate "a natural mother"? Good for her for joining charity work though.

Yes, it gets a bit repetitive .... But considering that is really the only requirement of her job, it is probably a good thing she appears to like kids. Of course, most 8 month old babies are extremely cute. On the other hand, I suppose if she doesn't really like kids she could just hire a bunch of nannies. I'm not sure how that would play in the media. We're along was away from the queen leaving Charles for months on end so she could be with Philip in Malta or somewhere. Remember the wringing of hands when Fergie left Beatrice at home while she and Andrew were touring Australia for 3 weeks?

I'm afraid to ask what a Beaver Scout is. I'm guessing it's the girls side of scouting. We call them brownies in the US. I suppose that's not much better!

They're Brownies in the UK and Canada too. Brownies are still a part of Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting. If a girl wants to join the Scouts, they can, but they become the member of whichever level of Scouting they're joining. Such as here in Canada, Brownie age is Beaver age. Guide age is Scout age. Etc...

BTW, the name Brownies comes from Celtic folklore of the little people who would mysteriously lend a hand to those who needed it, w/out them knowing about it. In fact, Lend A Hand is the Brownie motto. Unless it was changed in the last updating of the program. All of the little groups are also named for the various fairy "folk" of Celtic folklore as well. At least it still was about ten years ago when I was a Snowy Owl w/a Brownie Pack.

As usual when it comes to our Kate, I'm delighted with her choices. Well rounded, covering pretty much all the main bases, and yet not heavy handed at all.

Note that all are very British and close to home - in the coming years, I expect we'll see something international added to the roster. Maybe even on the trip to Malaysia?

Beavers are younger versions of Scouts in the UK. There are 3 levels of Scouts - Beavers are the youngest (I'm not 100% accurate here but we're talking about age 6 or 7) then Cub Scouts are a wee bit older and then actual Scouts are about 10.

The guides have Rainbows who are about 5 or 6, then Brownies who are 7 to 10 then Guides.
