Mine will take place later tonight Fergus. I did laugh at someone's posting over at TRF about how she could picture HRH's reaction to all of the fuss...

It's not a Funeral yet, but it's a damn fine Wake.

I can see him saying that too. :D

Speaking of Christmas toasting...A preview of HM's Christmas Broadcast tomorrow...

First Christmas weekend :40beers: was made this morning to HRH's speedy recovery. :)

He was released today after 4 nights in hospital. He looks good. I guess the longer than normal stay for this procedure was more due to his age than anything else. I hope he rests up as per the doctors recommendations so he can support Her Majesty next year but he is a hard man to keep down :)

Huzzah! for Prince Philip! First post in this thread. Being an Anglophile, I enjoy keeping track of the royals. However, the Duke’s hospital visit made me realise that HM ascended to the throne in my birth year, and there will be a time when she will no longer reign. That is going to feel awfully strange. So I add, may that time be in the far future.

I'm amused at all the headlines grasping at straws to use the Duchess of Cambridge's name to attract readers - poor Prince Philip has been demoted to merely "Kate Middleton's grandfather-in-law"

Which headlines would that be? All the ones I have seen here in the UK refer to him as the Duke of Edinburgh or Prince Philip!!

If you google Kate Middleton, you will see a headline that refers to Prince Phillip as "Kate Middleton's father in law."

Well that would make sense if it came up with Grandfather in law ;) and I was searching for info on the Duchess of Cambridge. But in this case we are talking of Prince Philip and when I google that or Duke of Edinburgh then it refers to him as the Queens consort first and foremost.

Daily Mail ~ A gift from William? Duchess Kate dazzles in 1,900 gold drop earrings (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2078754/Duchess-Cambridge-Kate-Middleton-dazzles-1-900-gold-drop-earrings.html)

Great pictures there of the York Princesses, HM, Camilla and Zara and Mike, as well of William and Catherine.

Zara is, IMHO, the most regal looking of all the latest generation of royal women. I think it may be because she isn't trying to too hard. She is just spending Christmas with her family. Beatrice and Eugenie always look like they are working really hard to look like HRH's.

Looking at all the images together, it strikes me that the Queen is clearly the star, with her outfit in marked contrast to the others by being so pale. Then there's Camilla in a jeweled blue, followed by Kate in a deeper jewel tone, and then the others in more subdued outfits.

You'd almost think they had planned it ;)

Glad to hear Prince Philip is at home and continuing to recover.

My dad told me the other day that he'd been reading a biography of Philip. Apparently he had a helluva crappy childhood. . .
