I apologize if this sounds like rehashing what has been posted a million times, but I could not resist starting this thread. Last night I was watching my G&G compilation on tape (actually I have been watching it for several days now, since it is a 3 hour compilation which I had made a few years ago).

This was toward the end of that tape:

Their Pocohontas program, skated in Sun Valley, Idaho, for a Disney TV program. You don't see a lot of skating in this, but I was struck by how happy Sergei looked. Katia always has a smile on her face, but I noticed Sergei's smile in this program. Such a happy couple! So unaware of what was to come!

The next program was Out of Tears (I loved the lift in the first part of it) and then Requiem- their last skate together. I was very impressed with Requiem. It had the difficulty, choreography we have come to expect from skaters. This was only the second time I had seen this program.

Their more famous programs are Vocalise, Reverie, Moonlight Sonata, The man I love -one of my all time favorites-but even in the lesser known programs you see what a beautiful pair they were. Their skate to 'Maria' (West side story) was lovely. From 1986 to 1990 they won mostly because of their consitency, but after turning pros their creativity really blossomed.

In their videos off the ice, they looked so natural and so happy. I don't cry anymore when I see their skating videos. It is wonderful to see them skate. Sergei left beautiful memories for his family, friends and fans. I was very lucky that I saw them skate a couple of times (COI, SOI).

thank you for creating this thread and posting these videos Vash01 and briancoogaert. They were absolute perfection. I will never love any skaters more than I love these two, and we are lucky that we get to relive so many of their exquisite performances. I agree, they really blossomed as professional skaters. I love the choreographic complexity, the attention to detail, their gorgeous posture and line, their innate sense of music, and just that G&G magic. You are so lucky to have seen them skate live, Vash01. and I like what you said, about appreciating the beautiful memories that Sergei left behind.

One year for my birthday, my husband took me to see G&G [& other skaters] skate live to the Houston Symphony. We had on ice seats & their performances were breath taking. It was a magical BD present. I am so very thankful that I did get to see them up close & yes, they were always perfect!!

They were just special. Every part of her life was affected by his death and although she has done well on her own, I personally wish she had found another pairs partner.

They are the reason Pairs is my favorite event.

They are the reason I watch skating.

I live this version of Requiem:

know you posted one version of this, Vash01, but I thought I would post this one too. You can really see the little moments in their interactions...the way he seems to just breathe her in, the looks they exchange...I just found this performance to "Out of Tears" extra-special:

And another favourite to "Meditation" by Massenet:

Thanks but I can't open these videos (I am getting some kind of error message about EMI). However, I am sure I have seen those performances in the past. 'Meditation' was not one of my faves of theirs, as I liked some other skaters' performances better. The puffy outfits were distracting. I did not dislike it; it's just that many of their other programs were far better. JMO.

I will look up YT for other versions of 'Out of tears'- I think that's the one you are talking about.

I liked their Disney Christmas performances. The first one was a diluted version of The Nutcracker Pas de Deux.

The second was skated to Aladdin ('a whole new world'- sounded very appropriate since they had just moved to the USA, or were about to move).

I just found this skate to Liebestraum, from 1990 COI. I think they had skated this in the 1988 Oly exhibition, but had blue costumes. Here they are wearing their 'Die Fledermaus' LP costumes from the 1989 worlds.

Here is the exhibition 'Jesus Christ Superstar' from the 1990 Trophee Lalique:

Skating to Maria from West Side Story: This is my favorite; normally I don't like WSS for skating that much (overused music), but they are so beautiful and so much in love in this performance. I think they were just married.

This was the encore to their 1994 Oly exhibition (first they skated to Reverie, and the encore was skated to the second half of their LP- I had never seen the encore because our TV network did not show it).

One of my favorite performance ever is their Gala :
Gordeeva & Grinkov 1994 Olympics Gala-Reverie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiUuTLHrGFg)

When someone asks me why I love so much Figure Skating, I show this program, or their LP. :swoon:

This program doesn't get enough attention:

1994 Tour of Champions - Porgy & Bess

I was privileged to see this performed, live.
Their love for one another "enveloped" the audience.

I saw them skate this live, at COI. Lucky me!

They also skated this at Artistry on Ice.
