I think Gracie's jumps are great and she definitely has a lot of potential.

I do, however, agree, that she's needing to work on her basics, stretch, flexibility and definitely skates through the music. Which she can, of course, still work on.

I thought Gracie Gold was VERY musical when I first saw her skate in person at the Liberty club competition in July 2007, where she won the Intermediate Ladies FS Final without a double axel (she turned 12 the following month). Her basic skating has always been very good, IMO. The 2007 Liberty results are still online, in fact:

From what I have seen the past few seasons, Gold has been focusing more on landing her jumps than expressing the music/choreography, but her current coach is known for being technical more than artistic. I'm not one to hype skaters or predict their futures, but I'm happy to see Gold improving on her consistency (mental side of things) in competition so far this season.

As much as I love Yasmin, I think Gracie has sooo much more potential at this point.

Her jumps are huge, and she has two really good 3-3 combinations. In addition, her speed and skating skills are great. Without the popped loop in the FS, her score could have been very close to Lipnitskaya's in Milan.

Absolutely agree. Gracie is probably the best jurnior lady skater U.S.A has produced for the past few years. Her technique is very sound. The height of the 2nd triple jump of her combos is enormous. She should skate senior!!!

The jump techniques of most other American junior skaters(Lam, Yasmin etc) are severely flawed & the jumps are tiny. They will go no where further just like Caroline Zhang.

I doubt it..She is almost 17 by the way. It's a must-do nowadays to have some 3-3 and 2ax-3toe. I like her speed but I can't help but think that she skates through the music(( She isn't that elegant either..
There is still a lot of work to do for her.Right now I don't buy her programme. Talent?Yes. Time to improve basics? Not so much

Almost 17? She just turned 16 in August. I'm not sure what time frame you have set for her, but she has at least 2.5 years until Sochi and contrary to popular belief there is life after the Olympics.

She has a lot to improve, but she also has an excellent foundation and basics on which to build upon. The rest will IMO come with experience, growth as a skater and hard work on the in-betweens to match her stellar jumps.

GRACIE FREAKING GOLD!

I just had this feeling she'd make it this weekend. :)

ETA: Just as it was a bummer to me last year when the US ladies couldn't win a single gold until Vanessa Lam showed up and won her only assignment, I'm bummed that some people got two assignments and Gracie only got one (actually, I'm bummed for Yasmin, too).

It is really easy to forget that this was her 1st(?) international assignment and JGP debut.

I still find Yasmin Siraj better and with more potential..

No, no, and no. Her jumps barely clear off the ice.

What do you mean you doubt it?

She had 112 + BV of 3Lo (5.10) = ~117. Julia had ~119, so it would put her right there. Her PCS probably would have been a little higher, too, if she skated perfectly.

It was mentioned on page 11 of the US JGP Assignments Discussion/Predictions thread (http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/showthread.php?t=77233&page=11) (hearsay that I also heard unofficially) that Siraj was offered a 2nd JGP but declined.

Yes, Estonia was Gold's first-ever international, but she was skating with nothing to lose here (no pressure of having to skate well to qualify for the Final like Cesario, for example). I think it's worth noting that Gold scored higher internationally than in all her summer/fall club competitions (her high total score before her 172.69 in Estonia was 160.31 last month in a local Chicago comp.). That's a good sign!

So what? 117 is still not 119...I don't think that her loop would have made her presentation score that high.
And according to you, if Julia did better jumps ,not so shaky, she would have received a much better result than 119 )oh, and presentation score too..

Wow this has to be some kind of record. Girl skates her first international a couple of hours ago and already she's got haters. Must be a good sign then - only great skaters have haters :P The way some poeple are talking, you'd think she was the only junior skater out there with crap programs and skating through the music. Ironic much?

I think she's got tons of potential and if only the USFSA had had the presence of mind to give her two assignments she'd be a contender at the JGPF. Wonderful jump technique which will stand her in very good stead as she continues to grow and develop. Plus she's got the best name in the business. Yay Gracie :cheer:

Right? I don't even think of her as really being in direct competition with Yasmin. Like, at all. My mind didn't even make that connection. I do, however, think that the top ladies need to watch out because there is a TON of young talent ready to overtake in time for Sochi.

Nationals at both the Junior and Senior levels is going to be very interesting, to say the least! Can't wait! :)

Haters are just jealous. They feel this girl is going to threaten their favorites.

What an incoherent mess of a post. Clearly, you didn't comprehend a word of what I actually said.

Like it or not, Gracie could very well crash the Russian ladies party at Junior Worlds. :P
