I stumbled upon it on my facebook stream, one of my friends had commented on a picture she uploaded (recently) with her parents World/Olympic Medals and her World gold all in one picture. In the caption she mentioned how happy she was that hers was the biggest. ;) So I'd imagine they at least made an exact replica, because it looked like the same thing to me.

I also remember reading back in 2007 that Bridget Sloan also got a Worlds gold even though she was the alternate, so maybe something along the same lines happened so both Anna and Alicia could get the medal?

I think USAG just makes replicas of the medals for the alternates.

I wonder what have happened in 1996 if all those gymnasts from Barcelona didn't make the team in order to make room for new gymnasts.

They would have been lucky to eke out a bronze medal ala the 95 Worlds (where some of the 92 vets were out injured) in that case.

Yeah, can you imagine a team where our best gymnast was Phelps or Borden? I love them both but we would have been fighting for bronze at best.

Exactly. So if Nastia helps the team's scoring potential in London, then welcome back Nastia. I mean, it's not Nastia's fault that we have a huge hole in UB.

Here are some vids of the recent Voronin Cup, including the return of (a very watered down) Aliya Mustafina:cheer: -

aliya com peted at the Voronin memorial competion finishing 4th, she did all 4 apparatus including a FTY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yzjrBX4TNg) on vault. UB (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLDGnae5DPQ&context=C36903b8ADOEgsToPDskJlsze3ypeyHfTfcKB_EZ7t ) was really good, but not with full difficulty, beam she fell but she did do a new element, 1.5Y spin. you just beat me to it. If you are member of intlgymnast forum you can go into Voronin duo videos to see more videos including some training videos and also beam. The user has decided to keep the videos private, so i am not posting the videos here.

The more the merrier, thanks! :40beers: I am in love with that 1 1/2 Y spin on beam from Aliya, in fact that's my favorite turn that has ever been done on beam. Absolutely gorgeous. :swoon: She hasn't lost that beautiful carriage, either.

Based on these vids and the skills shes added, even though I really hate the idea of her doing that ugly Amanar again, I'd say her UB and BB routines are actually really nice. Her beam routine is so risky, but a hit routine like that could will win an Olympic medal IMO.

I adore Mustafina's carriage. She holds herself like a Queen. And minus her dismount on beam, I've always thought she was fab there too because that event really shows her carriage there, and there was few twisting skills).

I'm so glad Aliya is back. I love her on bars, but I think I like her the most on beam.

I'm sooooo gonna be rooting for the Russian girls in London. They just have so many lovely gymnasts. I even like Nabs, provided she doesnt' attempt the Amanar.

Komova looks so much better than at Worlds. It's nice to see that's she fighting to not fall on beam now too.

thanks for the link
Komova also had the best FX in this competition this whole year, IMO
she got better lately, probably less pressure ? now that Aliya is back

her landings are now nice too.
Komova FX :swoon:

^ I still don't like it. I think the choreography is sort of below the standard she should be doing. It's just standing still, random ballet-eque pose, then emotionlessly standing around a few times in-between dance elements and tumbling runs with landings where she just stands still blankly for a few beats afterwards.

There are nice moments, but I'm ready to see her FX next season.

I'm actually hoping that the US girls get that olympic team gold medal, if only for the reason that Marta would FINALLY retire if that happens.
