Grishina looks so much younger here but it's only from a year ago!

I guess that answers the question of whether Maroney went pro. She looks so tiny!

Komova competed at the Italian GP and won both UB (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc_wn65NAXk&list=UUdLjnevco9250Oxk0d2i09A&feature=plcp) and Beam (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhCj8c97wZU&list=UUdLjnevco9250Oxk0d2i09A&feature=plcp). Afanaseva is having a great competition in Mexico, she apparently hit all 4 of her routines.

There were CONSTANT flashes going off during Komova's beam routine. Whoever was running that event should have been sending people into the stands to confiscate the cameras or kick those people out of the arena.

I have never seen a flight series on beam as beautiful to watch as Komova's FF-layout-layout. :swoon: She's taller now too, so it's even more impressive. She does that so perfectly - it's so high, floaty, light, and so square and straight, it's like the beam is only 2 inches wide.

Here's a new vid of Nastia training!!

Her new FX is Tosca, whee! :cheer: And she looks great! Wow it finally hit me the Olympics are coming, and as awesome as the last Olympics were, this one is potentially going to be a lot more fun and pretty!

Why is Komova and Afan still competing? Shouldn't they be, I don't know, resting?

I hate the stupid 5 team. Too many good gymnasts will be left at home. I feel anxious for my girl Bross. Of all the gymnasts, she's the one I want most to make it and that's a bit jeopordized with Nastia coming back (although I love Nast).

Do you think we will see a Komova half or Shap half transition from Nastia on bars? Or do you think her legs are too long? I also noticed an L turn on beam connected to another full turn. Working on those upgrades. :)

Komova is not competing at Voronin cup, which kicks of the year for russian gymnasts even though it is held in december. This year Musty is on roster and so is Sidorova, i think Grishina is siting out. Afanaseva I am not sure about her.

I see she's still training that stupid double front-half out dismount that gave her all those problems in 2008.

I don't care if Nastia is up to snuff, I would prefer to see new athletes on the team — especially if the athlete returning WON THE ALL AROUND the last time around, not to mention the team and individual medals.

Those new athletes are free to beat her out for a spot on the team. If they can't beat a 22 year old with less than a year of full training then shame on them. Or perhaps, just perhaps, she has earned her spot.

The only thing one could say though is that with Marta picking the teams there is clear favortism and it might be that there are gymnasts of today who end up deserving the spot atleast as much or in fact more than her, and she is awarded it due to her big name and being a big favorite of Marta's. Not saying that will be the case of course. If her bars are in good shape she should probably be taken already based on that.

So you would rather the girls not win team gold again? Not taking Nastia for bars will do that, the other girls have had over 3 years to get a huge scoring UB routine together and they haven't. If she shows up with a great UB routine this year, she will have earned her place on the team for that reason alone.

The fact that she's the returning Olympic AA Champion is MORE reason to take her IMO, because when was the last time a team showed up at an Olympics with that?!? If you show up at the Olympics as the reigning World Champions, and you also have the reigning Olympic AA Champion on your team it adds that much more prestige to the entire team, with an additional member on it with a resume like that!! She's done it all, won the biggest things you can win, if I were competing in my first Olympics I would love to have a team member like that to talk to and calm me down!!!

And yes I am totally biased because she's also one of my all-time favorites, sue me. :P

Marta could play favorites but the team is being decided at Trials and that takes a LITTLE of her power away. On top of that, Marta is interested in team Gold over anything and everything else. It is all a big math game. If Liukin doesn't fit in on the team with the highest scoring potential then she won't make it. Plain and simple. The U.S. girlies have had 4 years to come up with a decent bar routine and hardly anyone has done it.
