I think it was Andrea Ulmeanu. She was a member of their 2001 World gold team. I remember there being comments about her being lazy and not having a "tight or well trained body" - and I'm sure these comments were made during competition. LOL. Unsurprisingly, we never saw her again.

She had a round face and short neck, plus not great form - but definitely not fat:

This was the tiny tiny one I really liked back in the 90s. Andreaa Cacovean:

I don't think she was very good on bars though. I remember her beam and floor being good.

Andrea Ulmeanu was definitely not fat. Wow, I quite enjoyed that FX.

That link lead me to a fan's view of the USA's FX line-up at 2001 Worlds Preliminaries:

Despite the fact that I absolutely hated the OTT emphasis on stupid dance leaps in the 2001-2004 Code, I have to say that these routines really do look good compared to the type of routines we usually see now.

I can't wait for Fergus to come in here and see that pic. :D :grope:
Fergus Schmergus! His Leyva ubering is nothing compared to moi's.

:grope: Holy dirty thoughts, Batman! Pow! Bat signal received ... loud and clear.

Send it into the sky next time, Dany. :saint:

That's MR. Schmergus to you. :drama:

But 'tis true: I wouldn't toss Leyva outta bed for eating Saltines, but my ubering tends to be more toward the big doofus fratboy type (That means YOU two, Naddour & Legendre!). :D

Beefschmutz can have the skinny boys......... ;)

While we're on the topic, here's a tasty morsel of our Pan Am Team USA boys. (http://usagymnastics.zenfolio.com/p781304382/h1fd00bb8#h1fd00bb8) :biggrinbo Sainted Mother of Vera Caslavska, that torso on Wynn is insane! :swoon:

What sub are the US women in today? 2?

Braulio

Yes in the second subdivision (of 2) they will compete at 5:00 PM Eastern

Among with Mexico, so coverage will be divided between them

Brazil thus far with a so-so perfomance, Daiane Dos Santos had a fall on floor exercise though she could still qualify for the event final

Christine Lee of Canada also had a fall on beam, she was leading the all around until that

Final rotation, this time because of the mixed groups each subdivision has 5 rotations instead of 4

If I'm calculating right, Canada needs over 49.025 on floor to surpass Brazil. If 5 scores count then that's obviously easily done (almost too easy which makes me wonder if I missed something).

Gerber's FX is to Rite of Spring??? And has better choreo than every single FX I've seen so far this year. Wow.

Well, after finally seeing team Canada (it's been a while!) I'm hoping more than ever that they can make it through qualifyings in January. Very neat and polished, and good to see they haven't stopped excelling in choreo after all these years (substantially ahead of the US there IMO). They deserve a full team in London, fingers crossed.

On to team USA! Looking forward to seeing Shawn's progression and Bridget's return.

Wow what happened to Brazil??

Canada beat them by 7 points!!! so they are in front and most surely secured of a medal (Silver)

In one hour, second subdivision: USA and Mexico

I love that pic of Leyva, and I think Alexander Shatilov needs to do a counterpart pic as Robin. :D

Go Shawn! Go Bridget! :cheer:

That was a scary beam routine from the Mexican lady! :yikes: I'm glad she got off of it alive.

Lovely vault from Deziel! Unfortunate haircut on Jay. :slinkaway

Ok, cameraperson, more routines, less shots of girls standing around......

I can't watch beam anymore! Too scary!!!
