Forminte also spoke out against the Romanian Federation after Worlds. Here's a google translation:

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ro&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.prosport.ro%2Falte-sporturi%2Fgimnastica%2Fforminte-rupa-tacerea-dupa-esecul-de-la-tokyo-eu-am-fost-indepartat-ca-incompetent-8879661

The Romanian Fed kicked him out due to lackluster results and welcomed back Belu and Bitang. However, this isn't 10.0 anymore, and B&B doesn't know how to coach under the open-ended scoring system and they certainly haven't been able to coach Uneven Bars for like 15 years or so. All of this lead to Romania's worst result in like 30 years, so of course B&B are going to blame the gymnasts themselves in order to save their jobs.

Lots of has happened/been said since in the Romanian camp since worlds. I MUST point out that much of this has been reported in rather gossipy mags in Romania, so perhaps it is to be taken with a pinch of salt at times - however, there are enough interviews and direct quotes/facts to know that things are not going well for the Romanians! Btw, I've come across most of this through a very well-informed friend in Romania, plus a few other forums online - I'll try and find some links.

- Ana Porgras has come under ALOT of criticism. Cata Ponor has gone on her facebook and basically said that Ana doesn't work hard enough. During worlds, Ponor said she was sick of working so hard and giving 100% whilst others on her team just "sat around and looked at fashions magazines." She said something like she's sick of carrying "dead weight." Word is the team didn't get along well during worlds, and there was "no team spirit at all," according to Ponor.

- Belu has responded with criticisms against Ana of his own, saying she thinks she can score highly just by looking pretty (I paraphrase) and that she works harder on her image than she does gymnastics (not sure that can possibly be true) Mind you, it doesn't help that Ana once said she likes looking at pictures of herself online in her spare time

- Racea has also come under fire, as apparently she lacks commitment or the desire to work harder or get better, and is "more concerned with boys." Lol.

- As gossipy/bitchy as all this sounds, there are some definites: B&B are furious with the team and have "expelled" Porgras, Racea, Haidu, Chelaru and Bulimar. In effect, they have been sent home from Izvorani, the National training centre, to train at their home gyms, indefinitely. Only Iordache, Iszbasa and Ponor remain at Izvorani, and are pretty much 100% locks for London, health permitting. The rest, it seems, have much to prove. B&B are basically ignoring them for the time being.

Well maybe those girls can take advantage of their time away from B&B to swing some good bars, because they certainly aren't doing it at the National training center under those two!

For real. Porgras obviously had some decent bars training somewhere along the way, and I recall Racea being better in years past as well. Going back to their home gyms may be a good thing.

:watch: What drama! Not surprised B and B are placing the blame on the gymnasts, instead of admitting their own shortcomings as coaches.

Agreed. Porgras is such an unusually pretty Romanian gymnast precisely because she spent so little time at the national training center. My view is the more time away from them, the better. Though I wouldn't want that to turn into her being off the 2012 team completely.

For some reason this reminds of the pretty that was Alexandra Marinescu that B&B also didn't agree with:

I hope with the time away Porgras comes back to 2009-2010 form because with the way she was looking in 2011, I was afraid of what she'll look like in 2012.

ITA. She's my favorite Romanian gymnast since....well, since Monica Rosu I guess. Before Monica Rosu theres Daniela Silivas and Aurelia Dobre. Wow, I don't have many favorite Romanians. I hope Porgras is put on the Olympic team, I'll be super disappointed if she isn't.

Thanks for that link; I've always wondered what happened to Marinescu exactly.

I know it's way too early to make Olympic predictions and we don't know who will survive Marta's deathcamps more or less healthy, but I can't help but think that a team of Wieber, Maroney, Bross, Liukin, and Ross sounds like our Olympic team.

Of course, it depends on who is healthy, and if Bross can come back to fighting shape and if Liukin can actually manage to come back to prime form on UB/BB.

VT= Wieber, Ross, Maroney Alt: Bross (scary but Baitova is possible if she's on form).
UB= Ross, Bross, Liukin Alt: Wieber
BB= Liukin, Ross, Wieber Alt: Bross
FX= Maroney, Ross, Wieber Alt: Bross/Liukin (if she can have a respectable D score...we know Liukin is having her FX choreographed by Travis Wall of SYTYCD and though this is a big if, she can get like a mid to upper 5 D-score with only 3 tumbling passes with dance skills).

Of course, this team is sort of risky on VT if one of Wieber, Ross, and Maroney go down. Under 6-3-3, I hated it when Patterson and Johnson had to do AA because of injuries, etc. but under 5-3-3, someone will most likely do AA in TF.

If Nastia's comeback doesn't come through, we need Gabby Douglas assuming nobody else upgrades their bars to the point where they are absolutely needed. I would love to have said Anna Li, but I know there's no way Marta will put her on the team after everything Marta did to her, and we need a Bars specialist that is useful on Beam.

Despite her great Worlds, I can't help but see Raisman as anything but an alternate because her strengths are covered by other gymnasts while her bars are very detrimental to her Olympic chances with a 5-member team.

A YouTuber commented:

Belu didn't like her because for most of her career she was trained at the junior training center and everyone knew it. She was better than some of his gymnasts so he got jealous. She had so much media attention that he made her stop giving interviews.

Sounds a lot like Porgras, save the interview bit.

Romanian gymnasts I've liked: Amanar (94-96 and still barely), Raducan, Porgras, and I lurve Aurelia Dobre and Daniela Silivas. Not many. The 89 revolution really hit their program hard - I believe the head coach and choreographer defected to the US.

I loved Lavinia Milosovici. She was actually my first gymnastics love as I only started watching in 1991.

Marinescu - that was quite a sad tale. She later wrote about hard training methods in the gym that are not for the squeamish and how she was always pulled out of the AA for Amanar even when she qualified.

I think as well that B&B are trying to shift the blame. It isn't the first time that they expel the gymnasts from the training centers neither. Corina Ungureanu and her teammates at that time were expelled as well for a time.

I love that team. I hope so so so much that Gabby Douglas gets an Amanar by Trials/Olympics, because I'd much rather see her go than Kyla Ross (who aside from vault I find so ridiculously boring).

A team of Wieber, Bross, Maroney, Douglas, Liukin sounds fantastic. And if Liukin, Bross, and Wiber get way better on bars by trials, I wouldn't mind taking Sacramone instead of Ross/Douglas.

This team is going to be the hardest team to pick in the history of US gymnastics. I mean its already our deepest field (I think even more than 2004), and there is one less spot. There's also 4 returning Oympians trying to make the team like in 1996. This year will be absolutely nuts.

Russia's team could look phenominal too, and China with Zeng Siqui and Huang Huidan turning senior, on top of Sui Liu and Yao Jinnan, maybe a returned Cheng Fei.. Then you've got Ponor, Izbasa, Porgras, Iordache on Romanian side, Beth Tweddle, Oksana Chusovitina, Ferrari is getting closer to her 06 form, Lauren Mitchell, Dos Santos, this Olympics could be ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.

I have a feeling gym moms sit around making them and sell them at meets or something. It is the only explanation. Said gym moms would have likely been gymnasts themselves in the, you know, 90's, when people actually wore scrunchies!

LOL...You are close. I am a gym mom who was also a gymnast in the 80's. (Yes, we even had scrunchies back then in the olden days. They were just coming out and fashion foward back then. :D ) I don't know how to make them, though. :o

Scrunchies are alive and well in the gymnastics community here in Florida. They sell them at meets (so someone is making them and making a little $). In fact, a couple of weekends ago, my daughter and her teammates were all picking out some at a meet (3 for $5!) and trading them with each other. Also, most leos that you can buy (from GK, on eBay, etc.) come with matching scrunchies.

So, there you have it! :)

p.s. Like someone here mentioned, I'll confess that I also wear them around the house sometimes. Never in public, though!

Thanks for the information. This is pretty fascinating. I wonder if they will pull it together for next year. I'm sure they will try. It will be interesting to see.
