This was very enjoyable, I've always wanted to hold a gymnastics contest, and I'll happily prepare another one in the future, but we'll have to agree on a tiebraker! Not only I didn't design the site to take ties into account, but who would predict that two gymnasts would share a medal anyway? That makes it impossible to predict the correct results. :yikes:

So, here we go with the contest results, after all! ;) The results on the site are correct, with the exception of the men's floor exercise results, and this does change the overall results quite a bit, so the rankings on the site aren't quite right.

briancoogaert should have 12 points instead of 9 (+3).
Cloudy_Gumdrops should have 23 points instead of 15 (+7).
domshabfan should have 18 points instead of 15 (+3).
Pierre should have 22 points instead of 19 (+3).

The results are as follow:

2011 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships - Overall standings

1. (260) Choupette
2. (233 + 7) Cloudy_Gumdrops
3. (236 + 3) domshabfan
4. (236) Allen
5. (231 + 3) Pierre
6. (222) chipso1
7. (216) Fridge_Break
8. (215) shannalee80
9. (195) briancoogaert
10. (111) Gymfan15
11. (101) BigB08822
12. (90) Hedwig
13. (60) Belphoebe
14. (44) JW7777
15. (22) Poggi
15. (22) pvkirby

Thanks for participating! :)

15 +8 rather than 7, or was the total score 22. i won ladies section, so i am happy, but i handicapped myself by not checking whether my ring results went through. It registered 0 points.

And I should have entered wild guesses for the men instead of leaving it blank.

anyway, thanks choupette and :cheer: for the win!

Almost every skating dress that I've bough comes with a matching scrunchie. Perhaps it's the same with gym leotards?

And, just have to say, I've bought elastic hair bands at WalMart recently and there were no scrunchies near them. Are they hidden elsewhere? With those baby headbands, maybe?

They are on Walmart.com - in multipacks!

Russian gymnast Aliya Mustafina, who missed the chance to defend her all-around title at the world championships in Tokyo with a knee injury, will be back before the end of the year, her coach said Tuesday.

"Probably she will compete in November or December," Russian women's coach Alexandr Alexandrov said after his squad lost their women's team title to the United States at the championships Tuesday.

Mustafina, 17, a member of the Russian team which won the women's world team title last year, injured her left knee at the European championships in April. She immediately underwent surgery.

"She was actually okay now. She wanted to come here but we decided not to take a risk because of next year's Olympics. That left her crying," an interpreter quoted the coach as saying.

I like the approach of the Russian team not to use her here but to keep the focus on the Olympics.
Great to hear that she is doing good again.

Cloudy_Gumdrop's predictions were:

1. Kai ZOU
2. Marian DRAGULESCU
3. Kohei UCHIMURA
4. Alexander SHATILOV

Dragulescu withdrew. Since he is in 4th place on the site, Shatilov added only 3 points to Cloudy_Gumdrop's total, but he really was third so the prediction is correct and should be worth 10 points.

This is the first time I hear of something like this. I really don't know what could have gone wrong, and I'm afraid I won't know unless you can remember an error message or something unusual.

Thanks! :o It feels weird to organize the contest and win it... I'm also less familiar with the men, so I just looked at the preliminaries results and SVs. Somehow I did better in that portion of the contest.

That still seems like an early return for Mustafina. If she does compete in the next few months then I hope it is bars only. Maybe beam. Floor and vault better not be rushed back.

I'm catching up on all the coverage I missed over the weekend and can I say that the men's vault final made for some AWESOME television? What an amazing final.

I think she is coming at the correct time under her german doctors approval. if her Dr. thinks she is ready, then i don't how we could say she is hurrying to come back. If they had disregarded Dr.'s orders and competed at the world then it would have been a different story.

Here is a news report (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w87YWXBFgqs&feature=player_embedded) of her training on bars and doing some dance elements on beam and floor. The video was probably taken in late August. Interestingly you can also see she has got back most of her UB, if at all she lost them and also few upgrades on beam, like the Memmel on beam. I believe she might have worked hard on her spins and dance elements during her time off from tumbling training.

Well I know for a fact that she was doing stuff well before she was supposed to. There were videos of her doing elements on beam that contradicted the articles and what they said that the doctor said. If that video is the same one I saw before, she is doing the Memmel on the opposite leg that she normally does it on to protect the knee. She was doing that in the video we saw, switching some of her moves around so as to not land on the knee. I doubt the doctor would say "you can't do any thing until this date...unless you make sure to land on the opposite leg..." There is always the chance of falling off of the beam and onto the bad knee. I think her coaches finally got on to her, thankfully.

I saw that too, pretty much Belu and Bitang are coming out publicly against the gymnasts, saying they are too interested in boys and clothes. (Ummm, teenage girls?) I saw it on the Couch Gymnasts Facebook page. Here is a link to the article, you will have to translate, unless you are a linguist.
