Hi all...

I was sad to see this link a couple of days ago reporting the passing of Joe Aceti...

While not as recognized as his friend and former classmate Doug Wilson (ABC producer/director who retired in 2008), Aceti was at "Wide World of Sports" for many years before moving to CBS in the early 80s... and did much of the directing for figure skating while they had Worlds rights, including the first live prime-time coverage of Worlds in 1987.

He'd been retired since 2001, but back in 2009 I had the privilege of spending a couple hours on the phone with him for the sake of my book Skating on Air: The Broadcast History of an Olympic Marquee Sport. He was very kind and entertaining, and for all the different sports events he'd directed through the years (including several World Series games), he clearly had a giant love and respect for figure skating in particular. R.I.P., Mr. Aceti.

Without his efforts, what was broadcast wouldn't have been as effective as it was.
Thank you - RIP.
