I am not familiar with what Legendre did, but don't the Chinese and Romanian women chatter loudly throughout their teammates' routines? I have certainly heard their cheering and loud talking on TV and video over the sound of whatever floor exercise music is playing.

The US guys are always cheering and screaming for each other. I think it's just how they pump each other up for competition. I always loved it because sometimes they just look like goofballs and it's hilarious to watch.

Fergus: You're going to have to fight me for yummy Jake and as an only child who never really learned to share, I'm used to getting my way, LOL ;) :P

I heart Universal Sports. Same day coverage of this event is almost as good as seeing it live for me. I'm watching the men right now and I'm even skipping Revenge to watch this tonight! The things I give up for my guys, LOL :P

Fergus-No way to that deal but if you need someone else to drool over, check out David Durante. ;) :swoon: (And I did eat dinner all ready...darn it. ;))

^ Awww, Durante! Does anyone remember the brief shot of him clapping and crying in the stands when the USA boys won the bronze in Beijing? :wuzrobbed

Brokenhearted, but a good sport/teammate nonetheless!

Poor Romanian guy! His hands totally slid off the vaulting table and he landed on his back after a rotation and a half in the air. What a horrible start for Romania. I read about this earlier today but it seems so much scarier watching it happen. :(

What in the world was Tim Dagget talking about with regards to the Russian substitutions? Basically called them cheaters.

I think he was saying that a couple of teams substituted guys into their lineups for the finals but that there's no way to know if the replaced athlete is actually injured or not. Count me as another who's curious why that got mentioned tonight although he does have a point if the replaced athlete was seen walking around the arena or something. Hmmm.

Go Jake!!! :swoon:

I've never competed in team sports, but I've always wondered if the athletes really want individual glory and to win the AA or individual events, or are they satisfied with competing/medaling just with the team? I'm asking b/c Tim says that Horton claimed that he's ok with this.

People don't look on Carly fondly either because she's not a Nastia type.

I never got the Nastia love. I'd take Carly any day.

Agreed. I love powerhouse gymnastics when it's well-executed with good lines. Carly was both powerful and graceful. Nastia always looked like she was going to break in half.

Slate.com has a really great articl (http://www.slate.com/articles/sports/sports_nut/2011/10/usa_gymnastics_injuries_the_united_states_women_ke ep_winning_gol.single.html)e on the women's team situation:

Why do Martha Karolyi and the USA Gymnastics hierarchy insist on selecting teams in such a Darwinian fashion?
Because they can. ... we treat our athletes the same way we treat our natural resources, as infinite in quantity and therefore expendable.

Last year Jon said he had a goal for himself to get a World AA medal that year to add to his career achievements. He won the bronze and said it was very satisfying for him to finally make the podium at Worlds in the AA but that he also really wanted the team to get there too. He used to seem arrogant to me back when he first hit the scene as a younger guy, but he's been a HUGE team player ever since winning the team bronze in Beijing so I believe him when he says he wants to stand on the podium with his teammates more than anything. I don't know if every team person feels that way but I believe Jon! :)

How are the Chinese going to send a team to London next year with only five athletes? They seem to have several specialist gymnasts this year but they probably won't be able to afford that next year. Should be interesting to see how the teams shake out next year with only five per team.

And I liked both Carly and Nastia because I think they both brought something great to gymnastics and seem like wonderful people. Is that okay or am I shunned now?! LOL
