Its just a pity she hasn't been able to hit her Uneven Bars routines at Worlds since the Olympics. Though I guess some would call it Karma.

She won the bars title at 2009 Worlds in London.

I call it puberty. And I don't blame Kexin, she was just a child. I wonder how old she really was in Beijing? 14? Unfortunately she probably doesn't have the resources or support to get through this phase and make a comeback.

With only 5 team members next year, I think we may have seen the last of Kexin, since teams really can not afford to bring along one-event gymnasts. I may be wrong, but it's really looking that way.
Therein lies a (/another) problem, for me anyway. The top gymnastics nations will be constructing teams to win a team medal, with AA candidates as #2 goal, thereby medal favorites for one event (e.g. Kexin/Hatch) are going the way of the dinosaur.

Meanwhile, for the Olympics, [men's example] nations like the Netherlands (and :blah: Greece) will send two, three or four "specialist" athletes who have the advantage of concentrating on less apparatus (and IMO have been overmarked anyway in past Olympics (cough Athens cough). So, even with the tweaking where specialists have to be fairly proficient in X number of other apps, the gymnastics medal "standings" ends up misrepresenting "success".

My heart breaks for Anna Li. What she has been through is truly cruel. I seriously hope the US loses gold on bars tomorrow. Marta Karolyi is a bully and she's TOTALLY AWFUL AT HER JOB. That's what I just don't get. She doesn't even have an OGM to show for all these years of camp after camp and all the emotional abuse she's put these athletes through. Just sick.

Just to make the whole situation that much more absurd, apparently Sabrina Vega has been having totally awful bar workouts in the 2 days since qualification.

Meanwhile back in the States.....Sacramone tweets that she has the best boyfriend ever. (http://twitter.com/#!/ASac3/status/123370492127223810)

Yahoo! article on Brady Quinn leaving the Broncos QB controversy to be at Sacramone's side during her surgery. (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/With-QB-controversy-erupting-in-Denver-Quinn-fl?urn=nfl-wp9131)

You bring up several valid points, and actually one that I hadn't really given much thought before, where the non-medal contending teams can stack their spots with event specialists, and the top teams really have to build their team such that they can obtain a strong team total on each of the events, which sometimes results in some of the best gymnasts in the world on particular pieces of apparatus being left off the team for someone who is valuable on more events.

Simply put, the entire system sport needs to be overhauled. Everything from qualification guidelines, to start values, to officiating, to the sack of numbskulls that run the FIG, to the whole damn judging system (I'm about 6 seconds away from going on my pro-10.0 :soapbox: rant again, but will spare everyone a few minutes of their time).

I absolutely lost it when Anna talked about her parents being proud of her.

Especially touching since her parents were uber-successful gymnasts for China who both medaled at the 1984 Olympics:

Hmm so anyone know some place that is streaming the Team Finals or are we going to have to play Imagine Gymnastics?

I don't know but if anyone hears of anything please let us know. Universal Sports will be streaming it live but they are charging $15 I think. I want to see it but I pay enough for all these cable channels which now includes Universal Sports so why should I pay ANOTHER $15? They should have it on their channel, it isn't like they have a lot of other good programming at 6 in the morning in the U.S. As matter of fact, I just looked at the schedule and they have "paid programming" on until 10 A.M. (!!??)

Is that when the team final starts on US east coast time? 6am?

Seriously. I thought that coverage of events like this is the reason Universal Sports exists. Clearly I've misunderstood.

Universal Sports is airing some of the championships but NBC is handling part of it too. Here's what they have on the USA Gymnastics website:

*Live webcast. UniversalSports.com will have a live webcast of the team, all-around and individual event finals from Tokyo for $19.99. For U.S. Eastern Daylight Savings time, the live webcasts are scheduled for: Oct. 11 – women's team final, 6 a.m.; Oct. 12 – men's team final, 5 a.m.; Oct. 13 – women's all-around final, 5 a.m.; Oct. 14 – men's all-around final, 6 a.m.; Oct. 15 – individual event finals, 12:30 a.m.; and Oct. 16 – individual event finals, 1 a.m. (NOTE: Tokyo is 13 hours ahead of New York City; when it is midnight in Tokyo, it is 11 a.m. in New York.)

*Cable TV. Universal Sports will show all of the finals on its cable network during prime time. At 8 p.m. ET each day, Universal Sports will show the men's team final on Oct. 12; men's all-around finals on Oct. 14; and individual event finals on Oct. 15-16. The women's team final will air at 11 p.m. on Oct. 15, and the women's all-around final, with men's highlights, will air at 11 p.m. on Oct. 16.

*NBC. NBC Sports' coverage of the World Championships will broadcast the women's team final at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, and the women's all-around final at 2 p.m. on Oct. 16.

And just because I actually want to see the US team do well instead of fall on their faces for things completely out of their control, I'll be the first one to say GO TEAM USA! :cheer:

Now I am considering paying the $19.99 since it will allow me to see team, AA and EF. I thought it was $15 for some reason and I thought it was per event so I was definitely not going to pay. I am going to wait until the last minute though because I can not guarantee to get up at 5am tomorrow morning since I am in the central time zone.

Apparently the coaches vote for who gets on the team? That is crazy. Li with mistakes will score better than Vega even when clean.

I am not sure of that Raisman scored higher on E score than all the Chinese, that too with very visible errors. So Vega can very well end ip scoring high.
