Just watched the Anna Li video and I know it's already been said but is Marta totally OUT OF HER MIND????? Poor girl should have competed in prelims because with Tweddle and He Kexin out of UB finals she could very well have medalled if she'd hit 2 for 2 in prelims and EF. Props to her for still going out and training a routine like this for absolutely NO reason considering Marta apparently isn't aware she's even alive and doing gymnastics in Japan. If I were her I'd have told Marta where to shove it and hit the shops in Shibuya by now! :wall:  :blah:

Actually, I think Anna is doing the right thing-- kicking ass is practice and making Marta look bad. With every dismount she's probably thinking 'Take that, you b*tch!'.

Great point. The way she has handled such an outrageous situation is exemplary and as you say, every hit routine and every stuck landing gives more ammo to Marta's haters which I'm all for!!!

I absolutely lost it when Anna talked about her parents being proud of her.

I just read Anna's blog entry which broke my heart. She's handling it very well, though.

Anna's routine was lovely- she could have made event finals, no? What a frustrating situation for her. :blah:

I'm not fully knowledgable in how USA Gymnastics works, but is Marta really a one-woman show making all the decisions? Is there no one behind the scenes that has the authority or will to stand up to Marta, to say, "hey, Alicia isn't going to be able to compete and Anna's injury is getting better, let's change up the roster?"

I am sure Marta has someone to answer to but in Tokyo she is undoubtedly in control and gets to make all the decisions. She may have some explaining to do when she comes back but if the USA wins then they wont care.

The format really hurts someone like Hexin doesn't it. Though not surprised she isn't in team finals. She can only contribute to one event and is so hit and miss on it.

I see Chinese men qualified first in three finals.

With only 5 team members next year, I think we may have seen the last of Kexin, since teams really can not afford to bring along one-event gymnasts. I may be wrong, but it's really looking that way.

Apparently the coaches vote for who gets on the team? That is crazy. Li with mistakes will score better than Vega even when clean.

Hmm so anyone know some place that is streaming the Team Finals or are we going to have to play Imagine Gymnastics?

The whole Anna Li situation really doesn't make any sense. I mean, Anna is the alternate and an athlete got injured. Heck, Alicia is back in the US, so why keep her on the roster??? Just so she can break the record for most World medals (she's currently tied with Shannon Miller and Nastia)?

It must truly be heartbreaking for Anna to continue training and just on the sidelines. Pretty cruel to have her in a leotard on the floor too.

I hope this experience doesn't discourage her for trying for London next year, but who can blame her if she decides to call it quits?

It would be nice to see Phil Hersh write this one up. Anna Li gets huge points in my book, and Marta sinks ever lower. There is simply no justification for what she did. None. It is a triumph of meanness and spite, and it is time for USA Gymnastics to call her on it.

I seriously disliked Marta before, but I think I hate her now. Seriously.

I know she was training other events, but apparently she wasn't doing well enough on any of them to actually make a lineup other than bars.
