Event medallists can qualify themselves to the Olympics, should their team not qualify a full team or an individual gymnast. However they must achieve a score on two other events (for MAG) that is at least 85% of the average score on those events, which is why Berki started training other events this year. It seems unlikely he will achieve this though.

WAG needs the 85% on only one other event.

I'm hopeful since the Canadian ladies were 11th here that they can get a full team qualified at the test event, just have to wait to see how the men do tomorrow, I think top 8 for the Canadian men is a bit of a stretch, but if they can get top 16 they'll be in the same boat. Test event and then anything can happen :)

I don't think choreography in US routine is the problem, but the execution of the choreography is, they rarely sell it.

I think it's both. I just watched Wieber, Vega, Maroney, Komova and Afanasyeva on FX. Wieber is stiff and Vega is unpolished (hands not so good). The Russians are very graceful in their movements.

What struck me about all five routines was the lack of non-elemental anything. Unless it was a tumbling line or a COP-required leap or spin, they just waved their arms or sat on the floor waving their arms. Element, prance, prance, element, prance, element. Arm waving =/= choreography.

One thing I liked about FX from the 80s through until the early 00s was the "easy" stuff in between all the elements - a little dance with a walkover, or splits, or handstands. When was the last time you saw a girl do a handstand on the floor? Those things help to blend all the elements together

My biggest pet peeve of all is those giant, obvious, bounding steps before a leap. :scream: (literally)

My biggest gripe about Komova's FX is that after her first pass she just walks right to the corner to do her second pass. It is awful. At least wave an arm like every other gymnast. You should never just be stepping into a corner or walking on the floor like it is a normal day at practice.

 Someone who started reading this thread from about page 3 onward would think that the American girls were absolute rubbish talent wise, and had failed to qualify for London.

I don't mind Wieber, I like her better than Bross. But Komova is the direction I want the sport to go in.

Ita with all of this.

Mens has started again. I can't remember any of the links and they didn't seem to work yesterday anyway. But looks like Great Britain did poorly on Rings.

Decent Parallel Bars for Great Britain. Though keatings must have been big mistakes. Spain had good rings routines. Kazakstan did not have good high bars.

Anyone else following?

GBR has gone through 3 rotations, with solid performance, but yet to put an athlete in an qualification position. Daniel purvis is at the moment in 9th position on PB, 2 per country means he is in 8th Q spot. I don't think he will be able to hold on.

Martinez threw down a good vault. Keatings not doing well on High Bar.

I'm following a little bit tonight but I have to work tomorrow so I can't stay up for very much anymore. I hate having to work and not being able to follow anything else this week until the weekend again. :(

Looks like Vega, Wieber and Douglas will be the US lineup for TF on bars, as expected-- http://gymnasticscoaching.com/new/2011/10/line-ups-for-womens-team-finals/

No Anna Li :(

Spain killed it on Vault. They have the third highest total on Vault after USA and Japan. High Bar is not looking good for Great Britain.

From the Allround: GBR falls behind ESP aft the fourth rotation. ESP 234.669; GBR 231.211; KAZ 222.627
