What did she defame?

She claimed the murderer was a club owner, who was innocent. So that was the basis for the defamation conviction.

She was acquitted? Wow. I'm pleasantly surprised.

Good to know that the forensic experts' testimony overcame the prosecution's lack of evidence. And if, as allezfred believes, Amanda really is a "nasty American bitch", I'm glad that she wasn't sentenced to life imprisonment for that. I'm assuming that Rafael's murder conviction is being overturned as well.

I know the Italian system is different from the US, but would the defamation conviction be considered a criminal offense that you'd get sent to jail for or just something that results in a fine?

And I assume the guy who was also appealing is also acquitted?

The original verdict was overturned - that's not an acquittal although both will be freed.

Great news! I am pleasantly surprised.

What about Sollecito?

I still can't access CNN.

Yes, the boyfriend's verdict was also overturned.

So if Knox and/or her ex-boyfriend didn't do it, any theories on who did?

The original verdict was overturned - that's not an acquittal although both will be freed. so she could be retried?

If so, the earlier advice of getting the first flight out of the country may be wise

One would hope (assume) that even if the demation was punishable by jail time that her time served would cover it.

Now let's just hope they don't decide she needs to be re-tried for the murder.

Well, she could be but I don't think the authorities have any more evidence than they did during the first trial. I doubt they'd retry.
