Brandon Mroz landed a 4Lz at the beginning of his "Mack the Knife" short program at the Colorado Springs Invitational club competition this past Friday (September 16, 2011). US Figure Skating has posted a clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMQ8qNTG-jY

I was informed that Mroz received an element score of 14.27 (base value of 4Lz is 13.6) with 3 +1 GOEs (his total SP score was 75.06).

According to Phil Hersh's tweets on 9/18:

US Fig Skate tells me Mroz's 4Lutz won't be officially recognized as historic first because was in a non-qualifying domestic competition.

Update on recognition of Mroz 4L: More discussion coming in USFS, but early consensus among officials is it won't go into record books

Not reviewing it in slo-mo, I think I woulda given it a +2 in GOE, beautiful jump. Now, the rest of the skating....hmmm....:slinkaway

So good!

Wow, so very well done. I hope he can land it in a GP because he deserves to go down in the record books for it.

As someone pointed out in the other thread, there isn't any preceding steps and the GOE must be negative when there is no required steps before the solo jump.

From the ISU:

Errors for which final GOE must be in the minuses.
SP: No required steps/movements preceding jump -3

Unless the judges considered those pushes as the required steps. :shuffle:

Regardless of the GOE due to connecting/free movement preceding the jump, if he executes it like that in international competition, it will be ratified. If Rippon (who has the first opportunity and is also trying to accomplish the same thing) hasn't beaten him to it, his name will go down in the history books.

Amazing !
He has a very short entrance, but he takes his time to jump, it's very beautiful !

Just wow. Brandon's quads look so easy they seem like triples. I hope he gets ratified soon.
