I thought I continue our "Russian" thread but instead of just continuing to count, it is probably better to include the season in the title.

So here we go again with news, updates, interview, videos from Russian skaters and coaches.

First of all congratulations to Julia Lipnitskaia who just won the first JGP of her career with 172.51 points and a ten-point advantage over the second-placed skater.

Maybe we can include the information on Andrei Lutai here (from another thread): http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...l?eref=si_more

He pleaded guilty for his drunken driving at Skate America in 2009.

It says Lutai wants to compete in Sochi? Doesn't he have to start skating again? LOL.

Wasn't he trying to skate for Bulgaria? He's married to Albena Denkova's sister (Ina Demirova).

I know he coached a Bulgarian so I thought he just retired from skating. I don't know if he has been released by Russia to skate for Bulgaria.

Well, if he indeed hopes to skate in Sochi, it's high time to start, I guess. Or, may be, he just plans to come and skate, which would be a pity. I liked him as a skater.

Julia:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:, I think she is better than Liza and Adelina, especially mentally. She seemed unnerved by competition in most videos I have seen her perform. Hope I dont jinx her.

Petaykina- Kurdyukov won the competition and score near 100 for their LP, they don't seem to have any deductions.

When I talked to Andrei Lutai at the European Championships in Bern (where he was coaching one of the Kinchadze brothers for Bulgaria) he said that he is considering a comeback. But I don't know by how much this is wishful thinking. In any case it would be wise for him to skate for Bulgaria. He has been living now in Bulgaria for a while and he is married to a Bulgarian citizen, so chances for citizenship are good (maybe he even has it by now, I don't know). I don't think he'd have good chances for Sotchi in Russia anyway. Plus it is unkown if he ever gets back at the technical level he had.

Well, Liza and Adelina beat her in every competitions in Russia last season... Adelina does not seem to suffer with nerves either; she won everything on junior level and Russian senior nationals.

I think these girls are too different to compare and it's good. Each has her own style and champion qualities. And the good thing is that they know how to compete. Liza can be nervious sometimes though, but she is far from being a headcase and can show her best when it counts. Adelina's consistency last season was amazing, especially considering the difficulty of her programs. As for Julia, she is a fighter just like Polina Shelepen, that's something I really like in Tutberidze's girls. They fight for each element and never give up

I think Adelina is very good mentally. I like Sotnikova better than Julia. Julia has better felexibility yes which is a wow factor but I think overall Adelina is more polished, of course Adelina is also older..

Well we will see how good these Russian girls are when they face the top senior skaters this year. It's a big difference skating as a Junior and a Senior. Mirai seemed to be a good competitor too as a Junior but it hasn't carried over to the Senior ranks.
