This one really hits home:

Two of those killed in the crash (Brad McCrimmon- team coach, and Igor Korolev- assistant coach) once played for the Phoenix Coyotes (1996-1997) which is the NHL team here in Phoenix. Korolev also played for the Phoenix Roadrunners, a non-NHL team in Phoenix.

Here is the article in our local newspaper (The Arizona Republic):

RIP

Brad McCrimmon was an assistant coach for the Wings too. Here's an article (http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=587883&print=true) about Red wing head coach Babcock's visiting his family. Heartbreaking.

The hockey world really is a small world. Such a tragedy. So many lives touched.

http://www.wralsportsfan.com/nhl/story/10099021/ Josef Vasicek who was on the Hurricanes team here when they won the Stanley Cup, was among them :(. My heart goes out to friends and family members.

Terrible, scary loss. :(

"Wiped out" is a little tacky, no?

Just read on a few German news sites that players from other KHL clubs have expressed their wishes to play for Lokomotiv now.
It's amazing how much they are willing to show their support after this horrible tragedy.

I just rewatched the highlights of this EPIC Finale from 2011 Junior Worlds (http://youtu.be/KlXiwCSuWgI) and realized that two of the players of the Gold medal winning team were on the plane :(
Soooo young...

Yes, and Jan Marek (31 y.o.) has just 4 weeks old son .... and he was thinking about going back home.
For Karel Rachunek (32 y.o.) it would be surely last season in Russia, he desperately wanted to go back home. Have two small children.
Both were World Ice Hockey Champions 2010.
Josef Vasicek (would be 31 y.o. on 12th Sept.) won Stanely Cup with Carolina Hurricanes and was World Ice Hockey Champion in 2005.

Very sad news for the whole sport in Czech Republic.

This is so horrible. It's sad enough that it happened, but even worse when there is a tie to my team. Josef Vasicek was a member of the Carolina Hurricanes the year we won the Cup. :fragile:
