100m hurdles heats. C'mon Derval! Grimace your way to the next round. :cheer2:

Nevin Yanit, Euro champion, only fifth in first heat. She must have forgotten to take her meds or something. :shuffle:

Oscar Pistorius not in the final team for South Africa in the relay this evening. Apparently, he has tweeted that he is "gutted" not to be included.

Sally Pearson just ran 12.54 and made Derval O'Rourke look like an amateur in 2nd place.

Phillips Idowu easy qualifying in triple jump.

Korean triple jumper has shorts so short he looks like he could get a manwedgie. :yikes:

Did the Americans essentially have a B team in the 4x400m Relay heat?

Actually she ran her season's best in that heat.

It's not her fault that Euro women are so weak!

Actually she ran her season's best in that heat.

It's not her fault that Euro women are so weak!

She was running considerably faster last season when she won the European title, 12.63 which is a world class time and definitely not weak. On last year's form she would have won her heat comfortably and not scraped through. Six European women ran faster times than her in Daegu to progress.

Then again she's not as "bulky" this year as she was last year. ;)

Irish women's 4x400 didn't make the final, but set a huge new national record so :cheer2:

Pretty much. They'll bring in Sanya Richards, Allyson Felix and perhaps Lashinda Demus. The Russians will also bring a few fresh pairs of legs. Should be a good race.

Adam "Hissy Fit" Nelson is in the shot final. Wonder if he still does his "routine". :yikes:

Caster Semenya, Janeth Jepkosgei, Kenia Sinclair, three Russians and two Americans make the final of the 800. Jenny Meadows, bronze medallist last time, just misses out.

Beastly throw from Russian Abakumova, 71.25 m WL. Chris Tomlinson is out of long jump, he only managed 7.87 m.

Fingers crossed for Dylan Armstrong...the only bright spot for Canada along with the female hurdlers.

ETA - I knew I shouldn't have posted that...

Caterine Ibarguen and Luis Fernando Lopez :respec:

They are the first medals for Colombia ever at Athletics worlds. I don't follow the sport, but they are getting a lot of press back home. IIRC, they are part of a new development/funding program (the amounts of which would be laughable to the big countries, but it does give some support that wasn't there before).

Ibarguen is also a nursing student.

Maybe he can file a protest and get another gold awarded. :saint: ;)

Am hoping that Spotakova can pull something out and beat Abakumova a la Beijing....
