^What do the record books say about Sydney? Is Raducan listed as the AA OGM, or Amanar? I've always been confused about that.

Amanar is officially the olympic champion, though Romanian media claim that Amanar returned the gold medal to Raducan and Olaru gave her silver medal to Amanar. Liu xuan has the bronze medal.

However, Officially whatever these girls do with their medals does not matter, they can sell it or exchange it or play with it. Officially what counts is this (http://www.olympic.org/medallists-results?athletename=&category=1&games=30769&sport=31541&event=31562&mengender=false&womengender=true&mixedgender=false&teamclassification=false&individualclassification=false&continent=&country=&goldmedal=true&silvermedal=true&bronzemedal=true&worldrecord=false&olympicrecord=false&targetresults=true). Unfortunately Wikipedia people have gone mad, look at their result (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gymnastics_at_the_2000_Summer_Olym pics&action=historysubmit&diff=446282086&oldid=446280403).

Btw, what do the record books say about the Sydney AA gold - Amanar or Raducan?

Amanar. Raducan was stripped of her AA gold.

Raducan did do better than Amanar, it was positive drug test that cost her the gold medal and officially she is the olympic champion from Sydney AA

I know that, but I mean all those people would have easily beaten Amanar in the AA if they hit (including Raducan the only one of those who did and easily beat Amanar). However in Atlanta Amanar could have been a huge player even in an all hit competition.

Not US centric but I came across this on another board and wanted to post it here. I missed it when it aired here so was glad to find it. This is a feature length documentary by the BBC on the team selection for Beijing. While Tweddle is the only real international 'name' in the documentary it's very well put together and makes compelling and sometimes heart-breaking viewing. Don't think it was posted in the old thread.

Its probably US system which is at fault, where importance is put at being an all-rounder rather than winning the vault event. In countries like Russia and Romania, most athletes train 2 vaults from different family were as in US, there were only 3 athletes with two vaults at the last nationals.

Well I think that Russia is extremely strong in the All Around too. But I actually wish the sport would make the gymnast showcase a forward landing vault and a backward landing vault or give All Around gymnasts a boost if they do. To me every other event makes gymnast show that they can handle do different types of skills, accept for vault. And vault is actually becoming extremely compulsory.

I also wonder if the girls had to focus on having 2 different vaults and there was more of a bonus for that than having an Amanar, maybe things would be a little less dangerous. Than again if gymnasts are focused on having a Cheng and Amanar that could be very dangerous.

That is hilarious. The wiki entry has updated to show the US women as winning bronze because China was stripped but it still shows Raducan as the gold medalist. Can I update that? lol

ETA: I did, wow, that was easy. No wonder I am told to never use Wiki as a source!

Good news and bad news on Rebecca Bross. Having surgery tomorrow, will miss worlds. But no tears or ligament damage.

That is about as good as could be expected. I just hope this means she will come back next season in a better position than she was this year. You could tell she was rushing back and trying to force herself to do skills and sets that she just wasn't quite ready for. Maybe getting injured now was for the best, it gives her a few extra months than if something happened at Worlds like last year.

I changed it again and it went right back again. When I went in, your changes were still in the notes. I added a line about Raducan's positive test. It's gone too. If I had the facts straight, I'd add something about vaultgate too, but I don't recall how low it was or everyone who crashed (besides Khorkina).

Click on View History at the top of the page. Mine is the first (most recent attempt). Yours is the second. If you click on it, your change is still there, just not showing on the main page. Maybe it has to be approved.
