Yeah, and it's not as if most of those FTY are of high quality either (like they are in NCAA).

When the new vaulting table first came out, I remember people on the forums thinking that it would encourage more gymnasts to do handsprings, but then the code(s) decided to overvalue Yurchenkos and only the event finalists bother trying anything else.

It means no video coverage of prelims? :(

The FIG channel on youtube has put some prelim video's up. They have Porgras's and Ponor's beam.

Ponor's beam was lovely. Her dismount looked short though and be great to see that tidied up.

Porgras's would have been good had she not made so many mistakes.

Didn't like Lauren Mitchell's floor and even more difficult when there isn't any music playing.

Also where does one find the results? My computer doesn't seem to like that Swiss link.

14.391 for Lauren exercise, isnīt a bit low?? and considering is very early in the competition, still it could be enough I think

i think judges have been very harsh on beam and floor, even romanians a very decent team didn't score very well. I think judges are taking huge artistic deduction, i hope we will hear about this more.

Thanks Hedwig! I like that one the best so far. This link seems ok also but at the moment it doesn't seem to be up-to-date...

To put the scores we've seen so far into context:

Last year's Worlds AA gold medalist scored 61.032, silver 59.998, and bronze 58.966. So far, Haidu's score would put her 9th in AA last year, Mitchell 10th, Porgras and Little both 20th, Lopez 21st, and C. Lee 22nd.

Last year's vault EF medalists scores between 15.2-14.7. None of the scores from the first 3 rotations this year are in this range, not sure if any will qualify for EF. All major contendors are coming up in later rotations.

Last year's UB EF medalists scored between 15.7 and 15.0. The lowest qualifying score to EF was 14.7. Nobody so far is in that range, and all major contendors (RUS, USA, CHN, GBR) are coming up later also.

Last year's beam EF medalists scored between 15.3 and 15.2. Lowest qualifier for EF was at 14.5. Based on this, Ponor with her 15.0 should definitely qualify, as well as possibly Racea with 14.7.

Last year's floor medalists scored 14.8-14.7. The lowest EF qualifier had 14.3. So far Bulimar at 14.4 and Mitchell at 14.3 could potentially qualify. Many potential qualifiers are yet to compete though.

Competitors yet to compete to watch per event:

Vault- Maroney, Chusovitina, Steingruber, Nabieva, Barbosa
UB- Komova, Kexin, Tweddle, Nabieva, Liufang Wu, Wieber, Douglas, Kim Bui
Beam- Wieber, Raisman, Dementieva, Sui Lu, Komova, Sixin, Preziosa, Hypolito
Floor- Tweddle, Wieber, Raisman, Afanasyeva, Dementieva, Sui Liu, Belokobylskaya

I'm sure I've missed a few and probably have a couple listed who aren't competing or something.

Ponor has the most hideous twisting form I've ever seen:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzffYeK5UU8 (at about 0:32-0:34 in)

For fairness' sake, I kind of hope that her form has deteriorated and that she wasn't this bad in Athens.

I also don't get why Porgras had such a low score on beam - the mistake on the switch ring was the only significant one that I could spot.

I'm not a code expert, but I'm pretty the switch ring mistake counts as a fall because she would have fallen off without her arm grabbing the beam to save her.

I think it is 0.8 deduction for that, fall is a full point off.

According Gymnastike (http://www.gymnastike.org/page/1083)

WOW!!! A girl just vaulted a handspring double front! No way! Landed super low, ran back, she's on her feet!

She got credited for Produnova vault...7.1 d score, 7.9 E score... first vault of Pena had D score of 5.3 and E score of 8.633 for an avg of 14.466, she in the lead on the vault event.

I do think hers is the injury waiting to happen but good for get it credited.

Why is Ponor not on the Vault list for the EF qualifier? Didn't she try two vaults? I am surprised about that. (maybe I shouldn't be and it was expected but I don't follow Gym as closely as FS)

USAG did not substitute Li for Sacramone on their roster...stupid stupid stupid...and there was no rule preventing them from doing so as they had until 24 hours before the start of their day of competition to put their names in.
