USA Gymnastics has confirmed that Alicia tore her achilles. That should require surgery and there is no guarantee of her coming back from that.

She needs to contact both Kupets and Hatch stat.

I have to share this hilarious report of Lopez's floor by someone who obviously doesn't have a command of the english language or had too much to drink, or both.

Jessica Lopez on the ground was brilliant .. Spiked everything and danced some more. Featured triple turning pro at the end of the same foot-long triple tsk grp great shape. Dup carp and output 2.5. He raised the public. 5.6/8.333/13.933 deserved more!

Again, there was a rumor that Alicia was kept on the roster because of an idiotic rule that the alternate can not be subbed in unless she is subbing in on an event that the person she is replacing was on. Since Alicia wasn't even on the bars lineup then Anna cant be put in the bars line up. Just a rumor at this point but it may be why. I am hoping if this is true that Anna can be used in TF, the rule may only apply to prelims.

I think there's still time to take Alicia off the roster and put Anna Li on. There's seriously no need to have Alicia on the roster.

Did you read my post? The rules, if true, state that Anna may NOT replace Alicia because Alicia was not doing bars and that is the only event Anna would be doing. It isn't about time or lack of time. If this rule is true then Martas hands are tied, there is nothing she can do until possibly TF when she can take advantage of the injury rule.

Urgh, Bulimar fell off bars. :(

ETA: And so did Porgras. Man, she is having a bad day.

Ah. Apparently, Marta could've have taken Alicia out and put Anna in earlier today (our time), but it most likely didn't happen.

It is crazy how fast these subdivisions go. I think they are faster than college meets.

SACRAMONE TO HAVE SURGERY MONDAY

Alicia Sacramone of Winchester, Mass./Brestyan’s American Gymnastics, tore her Achilles tendon yesterday during a tumbling pass at a training session.

“I am so disappointed to not be able to compete and be a part of this team’s competitive success,” said Sacramone. “This is an incredibly talented and wonderful group of girls and I have great confidence in their ability to go out and represent the United States to the best of their ability. I will miss being out there to help them, but I will be watching them on Universal Sports and NBC. I also want to thank my teammates, fans and friends for their overwhelming support and messages of encouragement.”
According to U.S. team physician Dr. Larry Nassar, she sustained her injury while attempting a tumbling pass at training. She is flying back to the United States to meet with an Achilles tendon specialist and is expected to have surgery on Monday. The type of surgery and the needed recovery time depend on the location of the tear.
“Alicia is an incredible young woman,” said Kathy Kelly, vice president of program for USA Gymnastics. “Even injured, she has demonstrated her leadership skills and provided inspiration for her team. She has shown grace and maturity in dealing with this and has gone out of her way to help her teammates get in the right frame of mind for tomorrow’s qualification round. We will miss her when we take to the floor, and we hope her surgery goes well next week.”

I got some clarification on this issue.

Marta had until 24 hrs prior to the competition to use any of the 7 credentialed athletes as her team. It was due 3 hours ago.

Well hopefully she changed it, it is possible. Someone on another site mentioned the official line up hasn't been posted or something. Rumored lineups went around but apparently the one place that is official hasn't updated the US lineup yet? Something like that. I am sure she knew 3 hours ago that Alicia's achilles was torn so I would hope she would put Anna in, even if she doesn't think she will use Anna. Anna will be there, Alicia will not.

Porgras fell on bars, not a good day for her. Will she even make the AA for her team? Nevermind, she will.

The Aussies are in the next Sub. I'm curious to see how Mitchell will score. She's got some big D scores.
