Memmel wouldn't go to Pan Ams. She isn't going to risk an injury for that competition. Marta can send the athletes who need the experience. Memmel is well known for her mental toughness, Pan Ams would do nothing except to strain any injuries. If she isn't on the World team then she needs to rest and heal up injuries so she can try to stay in the mix until London. USA badly needs her to be able to upgrade her bars. She can do it and with Bross possibly out, we may need it.

So maybe we send Wieber, Maroney, Douglas, Sac, Raisman, and Johnson to Worlds with Sloan as alternate.

Memmel, Vega, Macko, Bridget, Anna Li, and Sophia Lee and/or Grace McLaughlin to Pan Ams. Or are some of them not 16 yet?

That would leave Maroney, Shawn, or Raisman doing bars in team finals. Um, no. No thank you.

I love Shawn and was very proud of her, but if thats the case we take Bridget Sloan, who was an uneven bars finalist at the last two World Championships and a World AA Champion this quadrennium.

I really love how the two generations are meshing, and the amount of established stars competing for our team, this team feels like a 1996 team in the making.

Hearing Bross crying after the vault was so heartbreaking :wuzrobbed she's the toughest, stone-faced competitor on the floor, and seeing her so upset and in so much pain made it much more :( She's so tough and really needed to re-route a few events, devestated this happened but she has time now to recover fully, worry about new routines and hopefully show up in London a new, improved, hungry for Olympic AA gold Becca. Get well soon sweetie, was impressed with her level even though she obviously wasn't ready.

McKayla Maroney is absolutely fantastic and I love how far she's come on the other 3 events this year, would love to see her make the London team as an AAer. If they both stay healthy her and Alicia are 1-2 on vault here and in London without too much competition IMO!

Bars we could be in really big trouble, Wiebers routine potentially has a crap load of built in deductions, and as it is she is our best bar worker. Amy Chow we need you.

I think Gabby still has a strong shot of making this team because of this, her bars at the very least have been consistent, and shes shown if she doesn't fal then the scoring potential on the other 3 are there. I still think she has a shot.

Macko did well but I would take Douglas over her still, maybe even Li if she can get her 6.7 down and hit from here on out.

Overall some good, some bad, some :wuzrobbed but the US team is looking like the team to beat both here and in London. We are definitely deeper overall than Romania, China, and Russia, even though 5-3-3 will change things up a bit.

Huh? They are the exact same gymnast except that Alicia has a personality and (somewhat) cleaner lines. Exact same strengths and weaknesses. Same utility for team USA. They'll both make it to Tokyo, but with only 5 for London, they won't both be there as well.

Alicia has excellent form. Raisman has awful form. That is the one huge difference between her and Raisman.

Raisman has pretty good leg form IMO, but went to the Blaine Wilson school for toe-point and was known for skipping class. :P

Shawn isnt bad as a 3rd bars worker. She is better than Beijing.

I agree she looks cleaner, but her difficulty and score is very Romanian. IMO we would benefit from a 14.5 to 15 from Gabby, Macko, or Anna much more than a 14.3 from Shawn. We were in dire need of a bars worker before Bross was injured, now its a national call Dawes, Chow, Kupets, Liukin anybody who could throw a routine together out of retirement for one event emergency. Who knows though, I wouldn't mind Shawn on the team because of her cleanliness, but her difficulty really is just way too low, and would need a .5 upgrade for justifying taking her.

I would still take Caquatto over Johnson for this year too. Douglas and Anna are too unreliable to be worth taking.

Yes their strengths are the same, but Alicia has far better form than Aly. I just don't understand how Alicia has such great form while Aly doesn't and they have the same coach/

SO my prediction for next year is:
Wieber AA and Team: Beam, Vault, Bars, Floor
Johnson AA and Team: Beam, Vault, Bars :/ Floor :/
Sacramone: Beam, Vault, Floor :/
one of Bross/Maroney/Sloan as AA candidates, and in for Floor/Vault in Team

Liukin for bars or a massively upgraded Memmel if Liukin is a no show

The Us has another girl Kyla Ross who is a two time Junior National champion who will be eligible for the Olympics next year. Kyla placed 2nd this year with an All Around score in the 60s. By far ahead of for example Maroney. She has an Amanar, she's capable of scoring around 15s on the other events as well. She's also known for being a very consistent competitor. And she's capable of upgrading more. Her ability on every event plus the Amanar is going to make her extremely hard to pass up for that team. And she could very well end up being an All Around finalist for the US in London.

As of this 2011 US Nationals....Everyone is unreliable. I'm willing to cut Gabby and the others some slack considering how crap of a competition it was. Gabby is a potential 15 routine, and I wouldn't want to because of the number of falls but she can score high on every other event too when she hits, couple that with how everyone fell apart in some way, I think she still has a shot.

Is there are new word on Bross's condition? Poor girl. :(

Maroney and Kyla Ross's Amanars mean that Alicia's rudi is completely useless next year. It's scary to say, but I don't see any of the Olympic veterans (Alicia, Chellsie, Shawn) making it next year. The reduction to 5 gymnasts and Kyla Ross make all the veterans dispensable. :(

Team: Wieber, Maroney, Bross, Kyla Ross, unknown bars specialist

Vault - Ross, Wieber, Maroney
Bars - Wieber/Ross, Bross, unknown bars specialist
Beam - Ross, Wieber, Bross
Floor - Maroney, Wieber, Bross

I don't want to say a vet won't make the team, but I do wonder about ASAC making it. Her beam is kind of shaky even if she can be for the most counted on to stay on. Her floor doesn't look ready and you have to wonder how long her body will hold up. The leadership argument well she was the Team Captain in Beijing too. That being said Marta does love her so..

Possible, but this is assuming Shawn and Alicia don't improve/upgrade by then. With Chellsie, I do feel that she's showing her best stuff right now and her scores are essentially as high as they'll get. I don't see Alicia's score on vault or beam changing too much, but they are good already. But I think her floor can and will improve. Also, who is to say that Bross will be back in top form next year, or ever? Its certainly not a given. And Kyla Ross hasn't even moved up to senior yet so it may not be a perfectly smooth transition for her, you never know. Things change so much in one year of gymnastics- you can't rule any of Shawn, Alicia, or Chellsie out at this point.

I also think that only one veteran will make it, with Alicia being the one for me, unless Shawn can improve her bars, have a decent scoring floor and shows confidence at 100 percent, still she is too concerned and worry-looking because of her knee

would love to see them both at London though
